I wouldn't do that but you can buy dresses wholesale online. Lots of people don't like this idea but it will certainly save you money and if you give yourself enough time, you can still do all the alterations you need. My BFF ordered one online and said it came in and was fine- it looked just like the picture and there were no problems. I forget what sight she used but just google inexpensive wedding gowns and see what you find. It's true that they aren't refundable or anything- and thus a gamble but what's the worst that could happen? You don't like it and you are out $200 bucks or so? For me, it might be worth the discount price to try it.

ive thought of that but im so hesitant. and I dont know if i like the fact that it is not refundable :( I was just thinking of renting a dress because im going to wear it for 5 or 6 hours..then its just a dust collector. It just doesnt make sense to me.
I guess i could look more into the online dress thing but alot of people have told me not to take the chance.
    Ugh im so confused! hahha!

I've thought about renting, but then I keep thinking it would be nice to hold onto the dress in case I ever have a little girl who might want to use it. But I'm totally sappy like that.

I didn't look into renting.  It would have been hard to find a dress hemmed to my length if I did find a rental place.  I just found a dress at David's that was reasonably priced as far as wedding dresses go.

No...never considered it for a moment. But as pp said, everyone's dream of their wedding day and what that event will look like for them is different. For me, while we were careful not to "go crazy", I knew from the start that I wanted an event that reflected who I was at heart...and that started with the dress. So, what that meant for me was a gown that was as lovely as I could afford...

I may never have a little girl to wear it, or my only two nieces may not want it...but in the end, it was never about that. For that one day, I wanted to feel as beautiful and special as I could afford to. Having the gown to look at as the years go by and relive that day is a sort of bonus for me!!

But good luck...and even though it seems like a lot now, try not to short change your big day. If you're blessed with long life, you'll make those few hundred dollars back many times over. But you only have one wedding day to look as amazing as you
    can :-)

Just a thought........I tried on a dress that I absolutely fell in love with but I to did not feel like I wanted to spend a thousand dollars on a dress for one day. So I researched and researched finally I found the dress on Ebay. I won the auction at the last second and got my dream dress for $157. The dress was a size too small and I had a seamstress let it out and add a bustle. Its perfect!

It was not something that I would have even considered.  I want to keep my wedding dress.  I went to David's Bridal and found a dress that fit's my personality to a T and it was only $400.  Can't beat that!

for the cost of renting a dress, you could probably find one at david's bridal, as others suggested.  my hubby and i had a small ceremony before he deployed to afghanistan last fall.  i was originally trying to find a simple short white dress as we were planning our "real" wedding for this may, but couldn't find anything that worked in regular retail stores.  i finally gave in and went to david's bridal and found the perfect sheath type dress for $350.  i missed their $99 sale but that seems like a pretty good deal as well!   maybe you could at least go in and try some on, no harm in trying.  good luck!
