Engagement Photos question

So we had our engagement photos done for free by our friend.  She sent us a CD with the photos afterwards.    My actual photographer includes an engagement session, but we'd have to pay for photos after.  

Is it acceptable if I get our friend a small gift certificate for her time?

    That would be a great Idea, it shows you appreciate what she did for you, and you will still be saving money by getting her the gift card rather than paying for the pics from your pro.
