Just Engaged and Proposals

My Proposal 8-28-10

It all started in July when Dave had a lot of overtime at work one week. He told me when he got his check "How about we take $100 out of this check and save it to take a trip to Six Flags or something this summer?" I, of course thought that was a great idea and was all for it. We made plans to stay the night at a hotel with our friends, Ashley and Mitch, and then go to Six Flags the next day.

The weekend came along and everyone was super excited about our trip (little did I know, it wasn't simply because we were going to Six Flags). Once we were at the park, we rode a few coasters and walked around a little bit. We walked by a place where people were drawing caricatures, and I said "Man! I have ALWAYS wanted one of those things!" Well, Ashley and I decided to make a pit stop at the bathrooms, and when we came out, Dave asked if I wanted to go ahead and get a caricature made of us. I told him "Those things are always so expensive, I'm not sure it's worth us spending the money right now." He responded with, "Yeah, but I mean it's not like we do these things all the time, we're on vacation!" and Mitch said "Just go ahead and do it, you might as well." So I gave in.

We sat down and the man began drawing. A half hour later he was finished and turned the paper around for us to see. I said "Wow! It looks great!" and then saw Dave "fall" to the ground. I heard him say, "Jessie will you marry me?" But my mind only registered "Jessie..." and I thought he was hurt and asking me for help. I looked over at him and realized he wasn't hurt at all, and had a ring in his hand, and it slowly became clear what was going on. And yet...I couldn't speak. My mind was telling me "You need to say yes, you can't just leave him kneeling there." But the words wouldn't come out because of the shock and surprise of it.

Finally I formed the word "Yes" and tried to figure out which hand I was supposed to give him. I was still confused as to what was happening. We told the artist we would leave our picture with him until we were ready to leave and began walking away. Dave then said to me, "Did you see what he wrote? It says 'Jessie, will you marry me?'" I had no idea the picture had any writing on it whatsoever so we turned around and went back so I could see the picture. I was so worried and distracted by Dave "falling" that I hadn't even had a chance to really "see" the picture.

The shock didn't wear off for a good 15 to 20 minutes, but as soon as I had a couple minutes to gather my thoughts, I thought and may have said out loud, "What am I doing?! I need to tell someone!" So I excitedly asked "Where's my phone?! I need to call my mom!"

Needless to say, it was a complete surprise and just what I was hoping for one day!
