June 2013 Weddings

Am I on track?

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

I just wanted to check with others who are planning June 2013 weddings to see if I am on track as far as what I have done so far.  I know I have gotten a lot done, but somehow I still feel behind.

What we have done so far:
set a budget (although we are ending up going a little bit over)
wrote up a guestlist (we still need to get addresses for 4 people and then it will be done)
decided on a date and time
decided on colors
chose the wedding party
had an engagement party
took engagement photos
made a wedding website
put our engagement announcement in the newspaper
got a binder to organize vendor contracts and other paperwork
started a registry (we have very few items so far, I definitely need to add to this!)
booked our ceremony and reception site (which includes catering and bar package)
booked our officiant
booked our DJ
booked our florist
booked our photographer
booked our videographer
ordered my dress
chose bridesmaids dresses (they haven't ordered them yet, but there's plenty of time)
ordered save the dates
bought our wedding rings
bought flower girl basket, ring bearer pillow, and aisle runner
someone bought us a signature frame (which will take the place of a guestbook)
we have our cake tasting set up for next weekend

Here's what we still have to do:
book the cake baker
set aside a block of hotel rooms for OOT guests
add to the registry (we only have about 12 things on it so far!)
decide on wedding day transportation for us and the wedding party
plan the honeymoon (I honestly don't know if there will be money left over for this)
groom and groomsmen have to decide on attire
attire for flowergirl and ringbearer
find someone to do my hair and makeup
buy my accessories (veil, shoes, jewelry, etc.)
decide on and order invitations
plan the ceremony
plan the rehearsal dinner (my FMIL said she would do this, but IDK if she wants my help)
purchase wedding insurance (don't know for sure, do you think it's worth it?)
make decisions about what songs to use for ceremony and reception
purchase things like placecards, favors, and other items for reception
get a marriage license

Let me know what you think and if you have any advice for me.  Thanks in advance!

From what it seems like you are on track and more! I feel comfortable where I am right now and I only have half to 3/4 of that work done!

  • You are definitely on track and then some!! If I were you guys, I'd focus on the hotel blocks, cake, and hair and makeup next. The rest of the items can be planned out closer to your date, but you don't want to end up without hotel rooms. Also, for what it's worth, stores such as Bed, Bath, & Beyond recommend waiting until you're about 6 months out from your wedding to register because their stock changes so frequently.
  • Thanks for the advice and reassurance!  Basically, I just wanted to know what I should focus on next.  Like, what should be my first priority to get done next?

Cake is definitely getting done soon.  We have our tasting next Saturday and as long as it goes well, we will book them.  I think I will try to get hotel blocks next because I want that done before we send out our save the dates.

How exactly do I go about setting aside the hotel rooms?  Do I just call some hotels and ask?

  • I think you have plenty done! I have only about half of that done, and I feel comfortable where I am. I would focus on cake and hotel block next and take a break!

Regarding hotels, I would actually contact your reception venue and ask them if they have a preferred list. Ours does, and some of the area hotels will shuttle to and from the reception location. If they dont have a list, just call around and ask.

  • I did a google maps search and made a list of what hotels were closest to our venue. Then I started calling them and asking for their sales/event coordinator. I had a list of questions that I asked each one. This website:  http://grouptravel.org/Hotel-Rooms-for-Wedding/questions-to-ask-when-booking-a-hotel-for-your-wedding-guests.html has a pretty decent list of standard questions to ask when calling. Good luck!!
  • thanks for that list emily! I for sure will use it too.

  • I think you are definitely on track! I agree with emily's suggestions on what to do next, and I'd also add transportation to that list, I've noticed that good places get booked pretty quickly, at least around here.

  • WOW!! I'd say your ahead of the game a bit. I only have about half of that done for my June 1st wedding. And according to my checklist I am on track.  Lol guess I better step it up tho... Luckily, we are not having many out of town guests (most of our friends/family live within an hour of us) so we dont have to worry about getting hotel blocks. While this is my second marriage it is my first wedding. (got married at the Judges office the first time) There is so much to do it can be so overwhelming at times.
