Fantastic weekend!!

Okay, so FI and I had a FABULOUS weekend.

1.) we got the proofs back on our engagement pictures. Some of them are eh, but we definitely had ones we loved out of them. So excited to get final copies.

2.) We found an invitation design that we both love. I know it's really early, but we have a very specific idea of what we wanted and we seriously just kind of tripped across the ones we loved.

3.) We just got back today from our Engaged Encounter weekend. It went so much better than I could have even dreamed of. It took a little convincing, but I was able to get FI to put his heart fully into the weekend and we had a fantastic time. We feel so much closer as a couple. A little sappy, touchy-feely, I know, but it is true.

Seriously. Amazing weekend. :-)

(also, it's totes okay that you don't like all of them.... you're not going to frame every single one)

  • I will definitely post the e-pics as soon as I get the final files back from our photog. As for the invitations, here is a pic. The listing on etsy is in different colors and seeing them in our colors was so much cooler. I think that even if my folks aren't okay with the price, I will make up the difference just to get these. they are perfect.

The picture washes them out a little bit, and the envelope isn't exactly the color we want, but we've got time to browse to see if there is a color for the envelopes we like better.
  • those are SO CUTE!

  • Thanks guys! We're going for a 1930s art deco feel with our wedding, my dress not withstanding because we all know a silk sheath dress is NOT flattering on a size 20.
  • Cute invitations!!  I'm so glad you had a great weekend.  It sounds like it was WAY better than mine.  :(  I was baking yesterday & totally broke the stand-mixer.  URG.  So i added that to the wedding registry.

    :)

Engaged Encounter is a marriage prep retreat. My FI and I attended a catholic version of the retreat, but I've been told that similar programs exist for other demoninations as well. To get married in the catholic church, you have to do quite a bit of marriage prep which can include any/all of the following:

    1. Pre-Cana classes
    2. Engaged Encounter
    3. Natural Family Planning courses
    4. Mentor Couple Counseling
    5. Relationship audits
    6. Meetings with the priest

Our diocese only requires either 1,4, and 6 with 3 and 5 being option, or 2 and 6 with 1, 3, and 5 being optional. FI and I have elected to take the second route.
  • holy moly! I've been looking at those invites as well! I'm doing a 1920's theme (but like you am avoiding the dress!). They're such a cool design!

I'm a designer though so I'm mostly looking at that stuff for inspiration, I'm going to be making mine from scratch :)

You'll have to post final pics when you've got them! I'm very interested to see the final product.

For sure! I think we could probably create something ourselves too, (FI has a strong background in art, and I have a pretty decent background in publication design) but the thing I'm most worried about would be printing. I don't want to spend more money on paper and ink than it would cost for us to just have someone else print them. Not to mention, these were PERFECT!

FMIL wants to print them for us, but I'm trying to keep monetary contributions and therefore creative control out of her hands as much as humanly possible.
  • I realize that I'm continuing to run into this issue of having the notion to do things ourselves, but then finding something I love made by someone else and going with that instead.

First with my dress, now the invites. Had a similar yet different experience with the headpiece I am going to use I think. Found a piece I LOVED, but could not afford the $415 pricetag that went with it, so I fashioned a similar piece for like 1/10 the cost.
