Honeymoon resort construction

Our honeymoon at bucuti beach resort in aruba has been booked since October, got an email yesterday saying the restaurant would be under construction when we are supposed to be there. Now I'm stuck with either a. Staying there and sucking it up that its just the restaurant and not the whole place or b. find a new place....

Aruba is a fantastic destination for dining outside of the resort. The food is good and I did not find it overpriced. I recently stayed at a hotel in NYC that opened two weeks before I stayed there and they at least made the restaurant open for breakfast. I'm sure the Bucuti will accommodate everyone as best as they can.

There are more places to eat in Aruba than the resort's restaurant.

It's just heartbreaking because of the good reviews I've read and wanted everything o be perfect for the honeymoon. They are tearing down that restaurant and are closing the resort completely for three weeks before we get there. They also said they are doing construction 9am- 6pm everyday while we are there. So I guess we'll see what the FI says

If you are uncomfortable with it, then look for another alternative. However, I have stayed at MANY resorts while under construction and many of them go out of their way as to not disturb guests. They know that how they treat their guests is a reflection on them and if people are unhappy, then they will get bad reviews and then their bookings will decline. Also, just a FYI from someone who is on their second marriage, so had two HMs. I painstakingly planned each HM and every last detail, but ended up having snags along the way in each. I flew business class to Tahiti to ensure lots of rest and recooperation from the wedding and got a sinus infection from the long flight. The first morning on the ground, I got sick after eating breakfast. I had medication with me, but I felt horrible for the first few days. On my second HM, the boat that was to take me from the island where we were staying broke down and we ended up missing our flight to our next resort. So, we had to spend the night in a different city and hotel than I had booked. I ended up making it to the next place on time, but it was tense. We still had an amazing time on both trips and I look back at it now and realize I was being anal when I shouldn't have been. So, all sorts of things can come up no matter how much you think your HM will be perfect. Not having a restaurant on site is not that big of a deal when so many other things could happen. However, if you still feel like you can't get over it, then look into other options.

I wouldn't want to stay somewhere with all that construction. My vote would be to find a new hotel.

Resorts are usually rather large. I am sure that tiny bit of construction would not harm you at all or get in your way. I think you should just stay put unless you honestly want to completely replan your honeymoon because of something that silly.

We stayed at Bucuti for our honeymoon this year in July. It is a really wonderful hotel and really different from most of the hotels on the island. I heard that they were renovating their restaurant to make a new one, but that they would also be serving food in another location on the resort for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I'm sure you've done your research on the hotel and know that it is not like the other much larger hotels in Aruba. Because of this, you will most likely notice some of the construction. The restaurant is right on the beach, in between the two beach areas reserved for the hotel. You have to decide if this will matter to you over the other things the hotel offers. But, they have said that they're closing for 3 weeks. I would think that the bulk of the major stuff will done at that time to disturb their hotel guest the least amount possible. I would assume most of the remaining construction will be on the inside rather than the outside.

I personally would still stay at the hotel.

These are photos of the hotel I took from our hotel room balcony. We stayed in the Tara Suites, on the second floor. They should hopefully give you a better understand of the layout of where the restaurant is in regards to the beach, pool and Tara Suites. I have more pictures if you want to PM me.

To the left of the beach, seen here, you can see two buildings. The first one is where the restaurant is that will be under construction. The further one is the covered beach bar. On the left side of the restaurant is another large beach area for the Bucuti hotel.

Now that all of that is pointed out, if you are okay with the restaurant being under construction, I can tell you that there are so many wonderful, delicious restaurants in Aruba. We only ate dinner at the hotel the first night we were there, and the last night. We ate a few lunches at the beach bar. The rest of the time, we went elsewhere on the island to eat. You can eat a new place every night you're there and still have plenty of restaurants that you will not have the chance to go to because there are so many.

I can't tell you what to decide about the hotel. I would try calling the hotel and to see if they will offer a discount to you.

The other day they posted this message:

We have finally confirmed the dates of our restaurant remodeling. The Pirate's Nest will be converting into "Elements" restaurant on the beach. The work will start on May 13, and we will be closing the resort for 3 weeks. On June 1, we reopen. The new restaurant will open on August 12. In the meantime we will be serving in the Tara Lounge for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Carte Blanche will also be available for dinner reservations). From June 1 to July 5 we offer a 35% discount to guests on our room rate and from July 6 through August 11, we will offer a 25% discount to guests. We are so sorry to disappoint the guests that were planning to stay with us during the affected dates. We do believe the enhancement will be a great one for our resort!

Thanks for the help! We've decided to stay there still because of the good reviews and knowing that it is just one restaurant. I can't wait to see Aruba!

We saw a poor couple stranded in the middle of the national park with a flat tire and they couldn't fix it because the rental company didn't give them the key to unlock their so that it could be replaced. </div><div>
