Ok, so we're having a small wedding (25-30 people) and I'm trying to keep the budget in check.  I just came back from interviewing a baker and got a quote for a 2 tier wedding cake for over $200 (that includes delivery).  I know that when you say the word "wedding," they jack up the price, but does this seem reasonable or outrageous?

    It depends on what the cake looks like.  If it has a lot of piping detail, it's going to be more expensive.  We got a two tier cake for engagment party last year from the same baker that is doing our wedding cake.  It fed around 30 people and it was around $150.  


    ETA: If you are trying to save money, look into your local grocery store.  I had my wedding cake (previous marraige) done at a grocery store and it was very reasonably priced and came out nice.

    That does sound like a lot. Ours is like 450 for 120 ppl. Do you need two tiers? It may just be you will have a lot more cake than you need. Mine is three tiers.

    The bottom tier is big enough that it will serve all our guests.  The top tier is the one we'll save for our 1st anniversary.  It has a criss-cross (quilted) pattern on it, with beads at each of the Xs, a monogram on the lower tier, and ribbon around the bottom of each tier.

    That sounds a bit much to me. We are getting ours from Publix and it's 3 tier for $275. I would double check on that to make sure the price really wasn't jacked up just because of the word wedding.

    Ours is 625 for 160 people, and a grooms cake, stand rental, and delivery. that does seem like a lot. Maybe you could not have a top tier to save for your anniversary. Our baker makes us a small cake for our one year anniversary. Personally, I wouldn't want to eat cake a year old.

    Mine is 3 tier for about 90-100 people, it is square which apparently is harder to do so it is about .25 cents more per slice. I have a few gum paste roses that are like $1 per and the grooms cake, with tax and delivery will be about $400

    Mine is 80 with delivery and setup but I am using a person who makes cakes on the side. Its a two tier cake to feed 50 people, its square with fondant and fresh fruit. If you can find someone in your area who works on cakes from home they are generally cheaper. Big bakeries told me around 150 for the same cake and that didn't include delivery.
