Secrets Maroma Beach vs. Excellence Playa Mujeres

I have searched FAR and WIDE and finally narrowed my HM search down to these 2 resorts. Both look VERY comparable so I thought I would check with you guys to see if you have any experiences or opinions on either of these locations you would like to share? Help me make my decision! :-)

We're going to Secrets Maroma.

We actually had narrowed down our choices to the two options you have!! We looked on tripadvisor.com and also spoke with our travel agent.

I honestly don't remember the deciding factors, it may have been cost or distance to the airport. Our TA has been to Excellence and said it was amazing. I think either is a great choice!

Me too! I posted a few days ago about any ladies reviews on Excellence Mujeres....hopefully this may help. Are your rates with your TA better than online, let me know because I've been looking online only? Thanks!

That is too funny that we picked the same places!! I have done a TON of research, I told my FI I should become a TA! lol! Right now I am talking with 2 TA's, I should have all the pricing back from them by tomorrow. I havent priced them out myself yet but that will be the next step. My FI is leaning towards Secrets b/c he is more of a beach person, but honestly, I dont think we can go wrong with either place.

We are going May 22-29......when are you ladies going on your HM??

I would like to go from 9/13-9/19. Have you tried cross comparing using CheapCaribbean.com, Orbitz, Expedia and other oneline sites? Maybe the TA can match those or come out cheaper? Cheap out some of the Youtube videos post from EPM.

We went to Secrets Maroma. We also had narrowed it down to the same two resorts you have. I read a ton of reviews on trip advisor. My deciding factor was the beach. Our TA said the beach at Secrets Maroma was better. We had an amazing time there. Everything was perfect.

I think we are going to go with Secrets Maroma as well, for the same reason - THE BEACH!!! I cant wait!!!!!!!!

Chrissya03: AHHHHHH! We might be honeymoon twins! FI and I are almost dead set on Excellence Playa Mujeres and we would be going May 24-June 3! Keep us posted on what you decide, and maybe I'll see you there!

Kn - YAAYYYY!!! Wow we are wedding day twins too! :-) I was DEAD SET on Excellence Playa Mujeres, then I found Secrets Maroma and read more about it, and the beach, and read Trip Advisor up, down, backwards, and sideways, lol. I think now we are going to book at Secrets. My FI is a beach nut and really wanted to go to a Caribbean Island, but I just thought we got more "bang for our buck" in Mexico. Plus, the beach at Secrets is rated one of the best beaches in the world on the Travel Channel. Honestly, I dont think you can go wrong at either resort, and I have priced both out and they are pretty much equal. Cant wait to hear what you decide! How is the rest of your wedding planning coming along?

Chrissya03- We are going to Secrets Maroma Beach for our honeymoon from May 22-29. Looks like we will be there at the same time

I am so excited and ready for the honeymoon. The pictures and reviews on trip advisor are all very positive and we have a friend that looked into going there right after it opened for his destination wedding and said it was amazing but too expensive for all the friends that were going.

I vote for Secrets Maroma Beach! I know that planning a vacay can be a daunting task, which is why I love Secrets Resorts.

Secrets Maroma Beach is an absolutely gorgeous adults-only resort! Everything is taken care of for you so the only thing you have to do is relax! The resort offers the most beautiful beach, a full-service spa, gourmet restaurants and tons of activities like snorkeling, windsurfing and beach volleyball.

We went through a TA for our HM and honestly didn't even look at online deals.

We're going Oct 18-25th.

If it helps to compare, for 8 days/7 nights, flights from O'Hare, insurance (including able to cancel due to poor weather), price insurance (if price drops) and transport to and from airport to resort we're paying $3600 via our TA (through Apple Vacations). We're also been given the HM package and free rounds of golf.
