How to change your last name

Hello Ladies,

I am sure this has been asked before but when searching I couldn't find anything local...but I need to know your tips and advice on how to change my last name.  I am taking his name and am not sure how the process works.  I will be googling this of course but I would love a little advice.

    Take the marriage license to the Social Security Office after it has been registered with the county you live in.  Do your name change there and then you can do the DMV and other things.

    Yep.  Go to the Social Security Office first.  Then I'd take care of your driver's license.  Everything else, I just took care of as it happened... So the next time I was at th bank, I changed it, etc.

    so the officiant sent in the license, can I just go to the county where I live to pick it up?

    You need to go to the county where you were married - that is where it gets registered.

    We live in MKE, got our license in MKE County, but since we got married in Elm Grove, we had to contact Waukesha County to get our licence.  I was able to fill out a form and pay the fees by mail and they sent it back  to me in less than a week.  GET MORE THAN ONE COPY!  It is only like $3 for extra copies once you pay for the first one ($20ish) - I got 3 or 4 copies just to make sure I have backups.
