Chesapeake Bridal Show Review

Hello Fellow Knotties,

I went to the Chesapeake Bridal Show today and I must say I had mixed reviews of it. I found that there were not many vendors there, ( probably due to the forecast) and it was damn cold! I went there looking for ideas for a DJ, baker, florist and transportation, but I found that the there was only one cake baker there, one DJ, two florists and only one transportation company. I guess it was good to at least get an idea what to expect at one of these things, but I have learned from this experience not to get my hopes up too high that I will find multiple vendors for everything. The fashion show however, I found to be very nice and had some great bridesmaids dress ideas that my MOH loved.

All in all I had a great time (despite the wind and the cold.... did I mention that it was cold?? ) and I look forward to my second show coming up on OCT 17th.

For the Southern DE knotties ( or anyone else interested) this one will be held at Heritage Shores Club in Bridgeville, DE from 11-2pm on 10-17-10.
Admission if FREE for Brides and $3.00 for guests of Brides.

The DJ was DJGK Entertainment. He was also the Emcee for the day.

ah. when i went a couple years ago with my sister the only DJ there was OHS & she ended up going with him cause he took about $200 off the price for her finding him there (she had short planning time & it still came to $575) the guy wasn't bad, but i didn't care enough for him to use him myself. lol

He quoted me $765 for a 5 hour event. (that sounded high to me )

hm...sounds like that'd be the higher end of DE's average...thanks for the info. i'll have to get a quote from them as a second option.

Actually, that pricing is in the lower end for DJs in DE. Most DJs that interviewed and looked into a year ago, when I booked, were about $1000.

I ended up booking with Tom Barrett a year ago and paid $695 for the night (5 hours; we had a 5 hour reception, most places only have a 4 hour reception. We had a church service, so we didn't need anyone for the ceremony). I believe their prices have gone up since then, but not like others. They did a fantastic job at our wedding on Saturday night, and if you are looking for an unobtrusive and decently priced DJ who gets the job done without going crazy, then I highly recommend Tom Barrett. They did exactly what we wanted them to, and the reception went wonderfully.

That DJ price was much lower than the ones I have seen. Most quoted me around $1000 and up.

I went to the show and found it so-so. There were not that many vendors at all. I didn't care for the MC pointing out that they were not checking IDs for the prizes and basically saying it was cool to say you were the winner. It really sucked for those of us who were actually present to win prizes (and frozen

) Overall, it was not worth $10 (or $8).

The "fashion"show irked me. I cannot stand when they use "models" that can't walk a runway and show off the dress. Sorry for the rant but for goodness sake---drop your hands from holding the skirt up so we can see the stinkin' dress, stop grabbing the train and hurling in a circle to turn and walk up the runway...and lastly hold the freakin' bouquet down so we can see the bodice. I am not complaining about their body types, looks, etc before anyone says anything. UGG!!!

Sorry girls! It drives me crazy though...

From what I have heard, the Delaware Today Bridal Show at Embassy Suites (they publish the Delaware Bride magazine) and the WJBR one (held at Clayton Hall) are much much better- they attract many more and better vendors than any of the little ones.

The WJBR one does not have an admission fee, if I remember correctly.

The WJBR one at UD is spectacular. There is no fee and there are a TON of vendors there, great food, drinks, cake, and pretty decent fashion show. They also have lots of door prizes. It's held every January.
