RSVP Disaster

I swear, this RSVP thing is NOT working out for us...

I sent out my wedding invitations a few weeks ago and also made a facebook page containing more specific details...

Here's all the fun stuff so far that has happened:

-I've recieved one RSPV with no one's name on it (I was able to figure out whose it was though).
-People are accepting the facebook invite and not sending back their mail RSVP's or letting me know how many people in their party are coming. So now I'm going to have to contact them all one by one to figure that out.
-Despite putting postage on the RSVP postcards to encourage people to mail them in, they arent, or think they need to give them to me personally...so I wasted a ton of money on postage..

and the doozie today:
I received an RSVP back with a complete stranger's name on it, accepting our invitation...WTF!!! I have no idea who this person is and whose invite was accidently delivered to them.

I'm sorry, I needed to vent...

Re: RSVP Disaster

  • I get it - a friend of mine RSVP'd for her and two friends of hers who weren't invited. I had to call her back and clarify...now I'm freaking out about crashers.

I really don't get it; it's not that complicated...

  • Honestly, I would never do a FB event for a wedding. I think it's confusing your guests if they're RSVPing there they must think that's an ok alternative.

Yah, I set the page up to provide more info for those who are not from the area, etc. It kind of backfired. I did ask on the fb page for guests to still mail their RSVP...but people just like to click "accept" and not read the entire event page..lol

  • I don't even look at FB events.
  • I agree. The FB thing probably confused people. Good luck!

  • Omg, did the complete stranger put a return address on their envelope?  Or can you maybe tell from the postmark what city it came from & then narrow down who's RSVPs you're still missing from that city?  I have no idea if a postmark even gives that kind of info, just throwing it out there.

  • If you're going to keep the facebook page, it might work better if you changed the facebook event to a private facebook group. That way they could still see the information, but it wont have an RSVP option on the page.

For future brides- this is why I put numbers on the back of all my RSVPs. I've gotten a bunch without return addresses, and it's really convenient to just check the number against my invite list.

That one about the stranger is creepy, though!
  • First off breathe.  You still have some time before I'd consider it to be a disaster.

    Some other tips:
-I agree with others that the FB page is likely confusing some people.
-Also, even if it's private there are ways around the settings to view anything on FB so be careful.
-As far as the unknown person, I'd look them up (since you have their name) and try to get their number and call them to let them know you have no idea who they are and it's a private event.  Before you do that though, I'd check if it is someone's boyfriend or someone you are not so familiar with and they are supposed to be invited.  Though not funny, is it possible that someone put the wrong name on there?

  • The stranger thing is completely crazy!! I can't believe someone would have the guts to do that. The only thing I can think of is if the person you sent it to has recently married. Otherwise this person has issues.

  • i posted the same question recently....i understand what ur going through. my rsvp's are just slowly coming in...i mean slowly...my rsvp date was april 15th and 90% off guest didn't respond..

i then had to start calling people and sending emails..thats when i started getting responses...it is so stressful....i still have alot more people to contact...wedding date is june 17th!!!!!!!!!

its hard for me to tell y to be patient cause i feel the same way frustrated!!!

  • My mom doesn't even want us to bother with RSVP cards because half of the guests don't even bother.

  • I am just starting to get phone calls from our RSVPs. I just sent little cards and didn't prepay for postage because I have been involved in a lot of weddings and I know most people never send them back anyway, they call or email or text.  I gave them an email option and a mail in option. I have a couple who have RSVPed but not a lot so far. Our wedding is June 9th.

The stranger thing is kinda crazy, but i would check to see if it was someone your FI knows? If not maybe someone is messing with you since you had prepostage it doesn't take anything to send it back. Sad to think that but I have seen things like that done.
