Modern and unique wedding reception ideas in center city Philadelphia??

Hi everyone!!

After being engaged for 10 months, we're finally starting the planning for our September 2012 wedding :) We are checking out the Franking Institute for our ceremony but would like to hold the recpetion elsewhere, as the costs there are too high for us. The total guest list included about 70 adults and 15 small children. We would love to rent out a modern venue with a kitchen on site. We are considering renting out a restaraunt but I do not even know where to begin. We plan our taking pictures at Rittenhouse, weather permitting, so we would like to keep the venue in center city as many guests are from out of towm. This is my first post on here...I"m hoping some of you may have some unique ideas for us :)

Thanks!!
Cheryl

That is such a cool place to have a wedding. I would have loved to have it there and even if weather doesn't permit there are a ton of indoor spots there alone. My photographer shot a few weddings there and I love how the photos came out. You can see a few here. http://www.marcanthonyphoto.com/wordpress/?p=3950 and a full gallery on his facebook page but I'm not sure if you have to be a friend to view it. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=72551&id=1658854767

If she thinks the Franklin Institute is too expensive, I'm going to say she's a sub $100 pp budget, which is going to make it tougher in CC

Have you already contacted someone about the prices for the Frankline Institute? Most places have discounts on Fridays and Sundays. Or maybe you could choose an off-season month.

Franklin Institute is rough.  Space rental there alone is $5000.  Then they make you pay for a lot of food a la carte.

Thanks for your responses! WEll, I think we'd like to keep it around $100 pp. The franklin institute is $155 pp! Which is just too much for us. We know we are going to pay more in center city but my whole family is coming in from Florida so we'd like to keep everyone in center city to make it easy. Maybe a restaraunt or lounge?

My sister went to a wedding last weekend in Old City
It's the old Real World Philadelphia House that they made into an event venue. She said it was pretty cool

    It's called Trust

Cool place!! I looked at the photos...that's kind of the place we are looking for. How do people do this on there own? There are so many places to choose from! I guess we are kind of leaning to a place that has a kitchen on site...to keep costs down and hopefully have great food...hopefully!

You can try the Down Town Club, Top of the Tower, or maybe Ballroom at the Ben.  I don't know that they're really "modern", but you can stay within budget and be in Center City.

Cescaphe, Tendenza, and TRUST (formerly the Fuel House) are more modern probably, but they're in Old City.  I think TRUST would be what you're looking for, but it is at 2nd and Arch.

You can also try some of the hotels in Center City (Loews, Rittenhouse, Sofitel).

So, here's a real question....If we decide to have the recpetion in another part of the city what's the best way to provide transportation for guests?

We met and got engaged in Rittenhouse Park, so we are planning on taking photos there. We are very flexible about location within the city for the reception but I just don't know where to begin.

Estia is a restaurant, so no outside food, but the downstairs is unique and it's walkable from Rittenhouse. http://www.estiarestaurant.com

Ladies, help me out, didn't we have a bride at one point who did her reception there?
And they're the five best friends that anyone could have, the five best friends that anyone could have! Photobucket

We need a place with POP if you know what I mean :) I'm thinking crisp white with pops of coral, taupe, and a green (not yet decided...lol) I'd really like something with clean. modern lines. and fresh, bright food.....man you would think there would be tons of great places in center city! I love the Atrium at the Curtis Center but they have a minimum number of people for each night.

thanks so much for your help ladies! I appreciate all your suggestions!
