heart rate monitor

I have recently decided that  I need a heart rate monitor.  I have been looking at some polars and I have been looking at the Nike Fuel.  I am so confused!  What does everyone else have and why do they  love it?  Thanks so much.

  • I have a Polar - I forget which type - but i  payed $100 for it about 5 years ago if that helps any - I imagine they changed the styles by now. When I bought it, I got one that was water resistant so that I could use it during water aerobics.  I LOVE it.  The treadmills and bikes at my gym are polar compatible, so if I set my heart rate, at say 135, the bike will automatically adjust to get harder or easier according to where my heart rate is.  Amazing.  Not to mention, when I walk outside, I use it to make sure my pace is good - I thought I was doing a good workout, turns out I was barely getting my heart rate up - LOL!   Plus, it allows you to enter your information, and will tell you how many calories you burned.  If you are a real techy, there's all sorts of things you can do with it, but that's all I really wanted it for!

This sounds like what mine does...I've never hooked it up to any equipment at the gym, but the watch/computer gives a ton of information and will store your workout history.

  • I have a Polar. Not exactly sure which model, but I believe it's an F7. I payed around $100 for it. I would recommend it. It's comfy and I haven't had any issues with it in two years.

Not exact, but way better than the machines at the gym. it calculates based on gender, weight, age, and the intensity of your workout (ie. your heartrate)...if when you gain/lose weight you have to remember to go in and reprogram it.

I just did a bike ride and the online calculation was 200 calories less than my heartrate monitor...I trust the monitor more.

  • So it does? I mean, do you look at it and it shows right there how many you've burned without having to go home and hook it up to the computer or anything?
I understand that things are not always accurate, I'm just simply wondering ifthey show that. Some don't..
