Favor ideas using mason jars?

My mom has a big credit to WalMart that she said I could use to buy wedding stuff--I've searched their website, and they sell 8 oz. mason jars for a decent price. I just can't decide what I want to put in them. I was thinking of "infusing" our own vodka with flavors like coffee, raspberry, vanilla, and blueberry (we're having a  brown and purple theme), so I thought that would be neat to put in the jars and then tie a cocktail recipe on the top. I've gotten some pushback from some people...do you think that's a good idea? If not, what are some other things I could do with the jars?
Thanks!

Your idea is a good one, however, Mason jars rarely are liquid proof. Plus, everyone does not drink alcohol.

Something my kids loved this past Xmas was some chocolate dipped Oreos that a coworker put into candy containers for us. You could dip some in milk chocolate, and use white chocolate for others, with purple sprinkles on top. Not sure how many guests you are having, but you could fill in with M&M's in your colors.

You could use them as containers for people at a candy buffet, they could fill their glasses and take them home

I'm sure others have better ideas

    Good luck.

I've seen mason jars filled with either a cookie or brownie "mixture"- like you put flour, sugar, etc in them and then include the recipe with the ribbon around the jar. You'd probably have to go online to look at best ones, but then the guests can take them home and add their own milk, eggs to make a treat.

The above idea is one I thought of when I posted. I've done it for Xmas gifts. However, you usually need quart sized jars for that, otherwise there is not enough ingredients to make much of anything.

But you could still try googling for recipes for your sized jar

You could make jam in them. I have been to a wedding with jam favors and everyone loved them!

I thought this was a cute, different idea - photos of guests inside mason jars as a centerpiece, take home kind of thing: http://www.dognbird.com/eco/diy-wedding-guest-photos-jar-centerpiece-keepsake

just wanted you to see what I saw when googling "extra large mason jars"

    http://thedalembertreport.blogspot.com/2009/12/very-large-mason-jars.html

So I was thinking you can do your signature drinks in the very large (3 gallon or so) sized mason jars.  You can have the alcohol ones and some with just lemonade or tea.  Each guest can have a jar at their place setting and can choose what to drink.  You can attach something with ribbon or raffia to the glass.  The attachment can be thrown away and the jar can be kept. OR, you can print something on the lid and have the lid attached to it.  idk of that even makes sense :)

Fruity flavored vodkas can even be mixed in to the lemonade or tea

Some reception places don't allow alcohol as favors, so be careful with that.

We're doing the cookie mix idea with quart sized jars. I was also at a wedding where we got lemonade mix in the little jars. I do like the jam idea too.

i am also considering using mason jars in my centerpeices because between my mom and aunts, we have close to a million of them. theyre very affordable used also, i would rec considering this, its cheaper, and better for the environment than buying new.

i did hot cocoa mix for christmas gifts last year. i even made sugar free also since several family members are diabetic.

that with a purple ribbon would fit your color theme.

as for the liquid tight concern, wm also sells white reusable mason jar lids that are water tight. but if you buy the jars theyll likely come with rings and lids. put the lid on, hold an iron to the top so that the gluey stuff melts then twist on the ring. that will make it water tight.

Im going to use mason jars as the guests cups that they drink out of.  I am going to paint black chalkboard paint on them on one side and leave a chalk pen on the tables for guests to write their names on.  Then they can take them home at the end of the day.  They are super cute and your killing two birds with one stone.
