  • Yay that is exciting! We still havent done our family planning class yet. Hoping to go once work slows down for me in a few weeks. We have already completed the marriage prep weekend and had two meetings with the Deacon. We are not planning on scheduling the next one until we have attended the family planning class and requested our baptism certificates. Im sure it feels good to be so close. Congrats!!

  • thankfully, we didn't have to do a family planning class. all we had to do was take the FOCCUS test, which was actually pretty interesting. I think we had about a 96% average though, we put different answers for like 5 questions total. half of those were just different interpretations on our part.

  • Thats what happened with our FOCCUS test as well. I knew FI and I were on the same page with a lot of those things because we had already had all of those discussions but I was surprised when it came back in the 90 something percentile. It was definitely interesting to see the results though.

  • Yay that's exciting!  We are at the same point...we attended an Engaged Couples Conference and we have one meeting left with the priest next week.  The only thing that sucks is the NFP class is only offered in March and Aug and I can't get out of work in March so we have to wait.  I'm glad we're almost done though :-)
  • Oh and I agree about the FOCUS test...some of those questions were worded weird and FI misinterpreted them.
  • Same here on the FOCUS test, we just understood the questions differently.  I am bummed because we would be done with all of our classes, we were already registered for the marriage prep and did 1/2 the class back in December but I had the flu on the second day so we had to cancel.  Oh well after Sunday we will be done.  All we have to meet Father for on this last time if to get him our certificates showing that we completed the classes and then set times for the rehearsal and ceremony!

  • I'm catholic but FI is lutheran; we are doing marriage prep classes at his church. It's 5 - 1 hr sessions, and we are really enjoying them. It's something I wish we could continue throughout the marriage ;)

  • Im gonna hijack this thread for a minute, if ya'll dont mind... FI and I are trying to hear back from an officiant who is a friar. He told my FI that one of us had to be catholic in order for us to be married by him, but he didn't say how catholic. I was baptised, did my communion and have only gone to catholic church, however I was never confirmed. He hasn't called us back about the rules, so can anyone fill me in since so many of you are going thru the catholic church for your wedding?

    Ok, end hijack.
  • I believe in order to be completly catholic, you have to be baptised, first communion, and comformed all through the catholic church.  My FI was baptised catholic but that was it, and my priest told me since he is not fully catholic we are unable to do communion at church.

  • If you ladies dont mine me being nosy, how much are you guys paying for church.  Our church requires a min donation.  Is that all you are giving them is the donation or are you giving the priest more money?

ours was going to cost $700 unless we were "active" parishoners for atleast 6 months beforehand. which means i'm going to church and giving the envelopes each week from now til our wedding.

We do not have to pay seeing as FI and his family are members of the church.
We will be making a donation to the church however which is standard procedure. This covers the music and the officiant; as well as the set-up and whatever else.

  • We are paying $500 for the church.  I have no idea if we have to donate or give more than that...I hadn't really thought about it.
