Vases & table runners

Hey guys!
My florist suggested that I provide him with the vases because he said I can probably find them cheaper than what he'll charge me. Any recommendations on where to find cheap vases?? I feel bad knowing how many vases I've thrown out in my life!!

Also, my reception venue mentioned either renting or buying table runners. Any ideas if it's better to rent or buy and where?? Reception is in SE CT. Thanks!

Re: Vases & table runners

  • I need to get my own vases too. I'm going to check out craft stores like Michaels. Supposedly Michaels sends out coupons all the time, for like 40% off even, so if you just slowly buy your vases over time it'll work out well!

I was actually able to get vases for cheaper from my florist than buying them elsewhere.  I had large cube vases though that are heavy.  They appeared to be cheaper online, but when you figured in the shipping cost, it was WAY more expensive. I paid $5/vase from my florist.  I can't remember if they were 6 inch or 7 inch cube vases.  They provided the flowers and supplies for me along with my bouquets, corsages and bouts, but I made my own centerpieces.  If you're not picky about the shape, you may be able to find vases at a craft store or dollar store.

I ended up buying my table runners.  They were far cheaper than renting (around $2.50/runner.  We did rent some specialty linens, and the company actually asked me where I got my table runners because they were so nice.  They wanted to order some themselves for their rental business.  I got mine from www.tableclothsfactory.com. I originally ordered single runners in different colors and fabrics so that I could see samples.  I placed a second order for the runners that I chose to go with.  The quality and price was great.  I had no problems with service or product.  Each runner came nicely packaged.  They will need to be steamed when you get them, but that's to be expected from shipping.  If you happen to need sage green table runners (they call is willow), I have 13 of them in a crinkle taffeta along with some single runners in purple, cream and champagne in various fabrics.

FYI, their runners are on sale right now.

  • I wasn't even thinking of table runners but they are so cheap on that website that I couldn't see not doing them now!  Everything at my venue looks so white so it would be nice to have some color.  Do you girls think it would look stupid if I only had one table runner on a round table that seats 10, or do I really need 2 runners per table (in a criss-cross arrangement)? WDYT?

  • I actually like the look of a single table runner better than the two criss-crossed.
  • I'll be looking for probably 12-17 table runners in a eggplant/dark purple.  So keep me posted if anyone is looking to sell theirs after their wedding.  I would like to have some color at the table with one runner.

Go to the dollar tree... They have 12" hurricanes or go online... Order them to ur store and shipping is free.

  • Home Goods has good prices....I got large glass vases in various shapes (hurricane type of vases) at Home Goods/TJ Maxx for 9.99-12.99 a piece. I had to go to a few Home Goods around the state but I found 17 of them...the shapes vary but they are all relatively the same size.

  • I am using overlays. I've discovere it's better to buy them then to rent. A lot of time it's cheaper and after the wedding I plan on selling them back on here anyways. As far as cheap vases... I got 4 smaller ones for the bridesmaids bouquets at dollar tree. But I'm also going to check ikea and michaels for some bigger ones

If I were you, I'd go with 1 per table.  Our tables were that size and shape and a single runner looked nice.  I think it might look a little strange to have 2 on the table... kind of like 'x' marks the spot.  From what I can tell from our pictures, the runners almost reached the ground, so there wasn't a need for 2 for length either.

We are having a rustic chic theme for our wedding--i am DIYing burlap table runners, and also love the idea of a single table runner going across the round table. Here is a link to a picture of a single table runner that I found (of course in burlap!) I love it!

  • I'd say for all those items check out consignment shops, thrift stores, dollar stores, the christmas tree shops, ocean state job lot and biglots.  One of my friends did this and ended up getting vases at consignments stores for about 50 cents apiece.  They all were different, but it made her decor a little more unique
