October 2012 Weddings

Shawl, Wrap, Pashmina?

What are you putting over your wedding dress? I have a strapless dress and will need to go from the car to church to the reception, etc. and they are forcasting rain for Oct. 6th in CT.  (I wish I had never heard of accuweather.)  This got me thinking that I will most likely be cold.  I bought silver pashmina's for the BM's to put over their shoulders, but I was wondering what you ladies are planning.  Pictures would be great!

Re: Shawl, Wrap, Pashmina?

  • I wasn't planning on using anything.  I really don't want to cover up my dress.  We will be taking pictures outside, but my photographer always says that brides don't get cold LOL.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the long range weather forecasts, it'll probably change a million times before your wedding date.

  • I got a white Pashmina and the girls a black one... just in case.

  • honestly I'm probably wearing a cardigan becuase i really don't care what i wear over my dress.  a relative gave me a faux fur wrap that looks kinda like this:
Faux Fur Wrap - Ivory, White, Black, Brown - Your Choice of Lining Color

i'm undecided about the wrap but it would look a lot better than a sweater!

if nobdoy will see your cover up, then why does it matteR?
  • I was just thinking about this on my chilly walk to the train this morning.  I was really hoping we'd have warm weather through October, but that's starting to seem unlikely.  I'll probably get silver pashminas for the BMs and maybe one for myself, but I have no idea where I should be looking to buy one.  I'd be worried about getting an ivory one, since it could be so different from the ivory on my dress.

Don't put any stock in the weather forecast right now.  They're barely correct for tomorrow, let alone over 2 weeks out.
  • I actually didn't even think about this.  Just checked the average for here on wedding date Oct 6th too!!  High is 67!  Shoot! I better have something just incase!

  • I don't know what to get, but my mom said i should get something. I get hot really easy and so i told her I'm not worried since I'll be dancing and have on the heavy dress. Don't freak out over the forecast yet!! My fi is a huge, huge, weather nerd and says there's no way anything this far out is accurate. 5 days is when it starts to get close. My matron of honor got married August 11th and hers far out called for boiling hot with rain. It ended up sunny and mid 80's...absolutely perfect! Block your electronics from accuweather until a day or two out!!

  • Our date is the 27th and I purchases pashmina's for myself, bridesmaids and personal attendants as gifts. If we use them great, if it's warm enough (in MinneSNOWta, I doubt it) then it is just part of their gift. I got 10 blush pink pashminas on clearance at Macy's for $13 ish a piece.

  • I ordered pashminas on Etsy for less than $15 apiece for me and my bridesmaids. You never know what the weather will be like in Chicago at the end of October!
  • I bought black pashminas for my girls (yeeeeeeah $5 street vendors in NYC!). They're all wearing different colored dresses with black shows, so that'll help tie it all together.

I'm wearinga longsleeve lace jacket from David's Bridal over my dress since my ceremony is outside.

  • I got a handmade bolero from Etsy. The lady is in Turkey and does amazing work. I love it and can wear it even after the wedding.

  • I'm wearing a vintage (real) fur stole that belongs to my fiance's grandmother. I'm considering it my "something borrowed." We're getting married in Sonoma County, California so it'll be temperate but perhaps a bit chilly for our outdoor dinner.

Me too :) We aren't outside, but I am usually complaining I am cold. I don't think I will be comfortable truly strapless!

I admit, I had never heard of a pashmina. I looked it up! Not a term we use :)

  • I work in NYC - so I'm gonna try to find a pashmina on the street and make a deal - some for me, some for my maids...
  • I was planning to get the long-sleeved lace jacket from David's but I ended up cutting it from the budget (unless I can find one cheap used). The BMs have chiffon boleros. I've got a white satin lined cape that I made several years ago for a friend's wedding that I may wear for some of the photos.

  • I was going to knit a sweater (yeah right) so one of the ladies at work bought yarn that matched my dress (it has red in it). I failed at the sweater but she offered to make me a shawl, she found a pattern that was named "as you wish" like the princess bride , which we are using as a theme. So if I need to I will wear that!

  • On FI and I's first date, I stole his zip up hoodie. To this day its still in my possession... I had it with me in labor and delivery with our son even! Lol. So I'm just wearing that.

  • I bought Pashminas for the the 'maids and any guest that may be cold.  I found them on etsy for pretty cheap, so I bought a bunch to place in a basket at the reception.  One of them has my name on it! (not literally),

Another thought was to borrow my grandmother's mink capelet, if my mother is willing to take it out of cold storage.

  • Oh man, now I want to buy pashminas.  What a great idea!  I do have an ivory one I bought in NYC my last time there that I can use for myself.  I should track down some for my BM.  I just saw some at the Mall of America yesterday at a kiosk.  Guess I'll be making another trip there this weekend!
