Band vs. DJ

So, I know that a good band costs significantly more than a good DJ, but FI really wants a band, whereas I think I prefer a DJ. He's really into music (used to DJ and plays the piano), and if it's do-able, I would want to have a band for him.  Has anyone priced out the two? What would you say the average price point is for the two options? I know that a band depends upon how many pieces you want, but, on average, if you've priced out bands, what was the average price point for whatever you were asking for?

    you can always do a dj / band combo. One DJ company we first looked at was Mike Sipe Entertainment. He offers a "DJ Live" option which is a DJ and then you can add live percussion, sax, etc or a couple instruments. It sounded really nice in the demos he played for us but it is a bit pricy (at least for me.) I think it was about $1200 for the DJ and then $600 for each live instrument. I've seen a couple DJ companies offer this combo type of thing. GL

    We are doing a 5 piece band and a dj. I am not sure of the cost because my father is paying for that for us. We are using a company called Just Us Orchestras. They have been doing weddings for 30 years. They have all kinds of combinations available.
