Photography Prices?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if people can give me an idea of what photographers typically cost in the area?  I'm sure there is a huge range, but I'm curious what's considered cheap, moderate, and expensive?

The reason I ask is because I just started looking, and have been surprised at how expensive the few people I've talked to have been.  I want to get an idea of whether these people are the most expensive of the most expensive, or if my expectations of cost are just way too low.

Thanks in advance!

My guess is a range of about $800 - $3500. Its a pretty broad range, but surprisingly there are plenty of great photogs in the area in or around the $1000 mark.

A lot of the brides on this board can supply you with a big list I am sure, my personal reco is for Render Photography. Her prices are really reasonable, she's a great warm personality to help you with the big day, and your photos will be awesome!

We went with Snap Grin Photography, and loved every minute of our e-pic session.  They were only $1000 for us when we booked. Their rates are no longer online, but I've heard they're closer to $2k now.

Ditto PP on Britt. We met with her as well, and I LOVED her stuff, she was a total sweetheart.  We just didn't "click" with her like we did with the two guys from SnapGrin.  To be fair, though, I think her prices are significantly higher now, too.

There are definitely some great photographers out there for less than $2,000.  Just keep looking. I've heard that MSP is one of the most saturated photography markets in the country (probably because we have two really good art schools.)

We went with Dan and Anna Oksnevad- they just moved here from Chicago and we met with them and really liked them. They are $2k for the two photographers for unlimted time and you get copyrights. They were the cheapest we could find that was 2 photographers and copy rights that we were actually really impressed with their photos. http://www.danoksnevadphotography.com/

People kept telling me we would regret it if we skimped on our photography so I would definitely take your time exploring your options and make sure you get rights so you can print them where ever and whenever you want!

the range that i know of is anywhere from $1,800 to $5,000. I can recommend Megan Norman Photography ( she is moderately priced at $2,000) or Erica Loeks Photography, she is our photog and is priced around $4,000. Hope this helps!

Our photographer is very popular in MN (he just won Best Photographer for Minnesota Bride Magazine!), and his prices are definitely above $3500.

We paid $2500 for  DnK Photography. This included 2 photographers for 10 hours, copyright release, and epics.

My photos and a review are in my bio.  We absolutely loved them and would recommend them in a heartbeat!

We are paying 1500 for Cadence Corneilus.  We are receiving 8 hours (although it might be closer to 10), and two photographers.  That also included e-pics, rights to the pics and proofs. We LOVE her and I can't recommend her highly enough!

We're paying $3250 for two photographers, all day, coffee table book, several prints, and copyrights for both e-pics and wedding pics. Kate Botwinski has been fantastic to work with so far, and I would highly recommend her!

We are paying just under 1k for two photgraphers, 8 hours of shotting time, and rights to all the pics. We went with Sara from Vetriano Photography: http://www.vetriano.com/

Here prices are around 1.5k now I think but she has other photographers too that are less expensive.

We're paying $2100 for our guy, and that's with a discount, since he's my FI's tennis buddy and coworker.  I believe it includes 7 hours of coverage with up to 3 sites to take pictures, including the "getting ready" shots, which are the most important to me.  We're also getting our e-pics for $100, which is half price, and the permit is already covered as long as we go to the Landscape Arboretum in Chaska.

A good place to look for photographers is at National Camera.  Nearly all the salespeople there have side businesses photographing weddings, and some of them are really good.

We're using Kristen Prosser from Kristen Ann Photography. We're paying $2000 and get all day coverage, copy rights and a nice coffee table book. I like that we get all day and a book all in one which is why I picked her. I also met with DnK Photography and really liked both of them and they take beautiful photographs. They've done pictures for a few people I know.

I'm using Natalie Finazzo Photography (www.nataliefinazzophotography.com) and she's around the $2400 mark. Includes 2 photographers for 8 hours, rights to all the pictures, etc. She does some AMAZING work!

Another cheer for Brit of Render Photography. I picked a package at around the $1800 mark 2 photographers, epic, rights etc.  I have never ever liked a photograph of myself and I just received them back. I loved them. She's a miracle worker in my book.

I also really liked Anna of studio 220.  Their prices were just a hair above Brit's. They have some really talented people there too.

Pay attention to price - but also try and meet with a couple of people.  The idea of "Clicking" with someone is more important that I ever would have thought. Both of us are very shy in certain situations.  Brit completely put us at ease and gave just the right amount of direction.  I couldn't deal with someone who didn't voice their opinions about what would make a better shot and direct us a bit.  She was constantly looking for creative shots during our Engagement shots.

I would say $1000 - $3500 is about the range around here.  You can go lower if you find a new one starting out.  We had both Dana Schoppe and Ben Berndt (for rehearsal and wedding respectively), and loved them both.  They're in the $1500 - $2500 range for two photogs all day, e-pics, and albumn.

Calli V Photography also gets lots of props on this board and Spencer Combs for the upper price range.

I agree with the price range of 1k-3.5k is *average*, I did extensive research and this is where most people fall.  The outliers in the upper range are Spencer (for us 4.4k), Olive Juice studios (>5k) & noah wolf (5k ish).

Good luck!!! I had a ton of fun looking for photographers!

We went with Laura Ivanova who I believe is at about 2k for all day and rights this year. She is AMAZING and has had photos featured in MN Bride magazine.

Another person we went with to capture some of our other wedding-related events (showers, rehearsal dinner, etc) was a family friend who is also doing photography now. She did it as a gift for us, so I'm nor sure of her pricing, but you can check out some of her work here: http://theonlyyou.com/ and our gallery here:

We are having Lizzy from Imagen International for our wedding next month.  We really clicked when we met her.  The price is $1050 for 2 photographers, all day, copyright to the pictures, and 2 additional (unlimited time) photography shoots.  We didn't use them for e-pics but liked their style.  They were the lowest price we found but still really liked their work.

We went with Bellagala.  They were having some great specials.  I'm not sure if they are currently offering them, though.  We booked about 2 weeks ago.  They have three levels of photographers, apprentice, associate and lead.  They have packages or you can make your own.  Our special was the lead photographer for 7 hours, engagement pictures, rights to all pictures and a cd, and an italian leather album. we added an hour of pics. Our grand total was 2500. Thats normally the price of the associate (midlevel) photographer.  They also offer dj (also on sale for $500). We booked a buttercream cake thorugh them too, and got 30% off the cake. Plus you get 50$ off for every single thing that you book through them.  They have limos, hair/makeup, etc.  Its def worth looking into.

We are paying $1700 for 3 hours of shooting w/ 1 photographer and we get 300 color corrected images on a CD, those 300 in 5x7s and the rights to our own photos- which was big for us.

For the hours we're getting I know we're very much on the high side but I feel like the style of our photographer is super important so we'e going with Erin Johnson Photography.  http://erinjohnsonphoto.com/

I was definitely shocked by photog prices, too, and we readjusted our budget to accommodate having a photog we liked.
We're hiring Chris Emeott. It was a tough choice, but for our target range (~$2k), we just had to pull the trigger.  We haven't done anything with him yet...  I imagine I have to meet with him again soon to go over some stuff!
We modified one of his packages to get our target rate - cut to 1 photog, no e-pics.  We get all day coverage, digital images & copyrights, most images optimized/edited, and a $300 print credit.

Our photographer (Graddy) was around $3,000 for 2 photographers for 8 hours and the CD of all of the pictures.  Photography was one of the most important parts of my day so it was definitely well worth it.  I did find a lot of other photographers who I thought did a good job and that I liked OK around $2,000 but I was looking for something above and beyond so I was willing to spend more.  I think most really good professional photographers will be anywhere from $3,000-$5,000+ depending on what you are all looking for.
