Irving Arts Center, Colleyville Center

Have any of you had or will have a reception at the Irving Arts Center or the Colleyville Center?  How was your experience and do you have pictures?  I'm planning my wedding from Houston and have not had a chance to go up there and check it out, but I was wondering if tehre were any opinions before I spend time going to these two.

Thanks

We looked at the Colleyville Center. The price is great, but be aware you cant book until exactly 1 year before your date and it books quickly. It's not bad, but I didn't like it. It reminded me of a HS gym with the floor and the stage. It has beautiful windows and could be dressed up nicely, but I remember someone saying the floor really stuck out in their pics.

My complaint was the same as Marissa, I saw pictures of a wedding there and it was definently an Eye Sore. I tried to get in contact with Irving Art Center several times and they never replyed to my emails or my phone calls, I gave up. Are you looking for Mid-city area or just in that price range?

I'm looking for something fairly close to Coppell and the airport.. which makes it Mid-Cities or Grapevine (are those one in the same?)  I would also like to bring my own caterer and alcohol.  It's not so much that I have an issue about paying for the alcohol, but only 1/2 the people really drink (the younger ones) and I would rather not pay per person per hour for people that won't be drinking...

BTW... Marissa did you see my question down at the bottom about the Connection Florist?  I was just wondering how the prices were and if you need a wholesale license...

Oh trust me I understand I was the same exact way, plus at some places you pay more for drinks then food. I looked in that area simply because it was so close to Arlington, but didn't have any luck and ended up going with a venue in Fort Worth. Hopefully you find something that will work for ya. The girls here I am sure will be of more help then I am.GL.

Sorry! I saw a notification for a message before and forgot to respond to it. I believe you need a wholesale license to get really good prices there, and I think their normal prices weren't anything special. The class is definitely worth it, but I would get the flowers from Costco or farmstogo.com or a similar website.

Check out some of the wineries in Grapevine--I think some allow you to bring your own stuff.

I had my wedding at the Colleyville Center, if you want to see pictures I would be happy to email you some. My friend had her wedding at the Irving Art Center and I didn't like the room so much, kind of boring low ceilings.

Did you receive my email? I sent it twice, the first time it came back saying your mailbox was full.

weird... I only use that email for little things... I got it!  Thanks!  I was worried about the floors since pp pointed it out earlier... I haven't gotten a chance to see it in person since I live in Houston, but I might check it out... I'm wondering how it will look dimly lit with alternate lighting...

FWIW, Melissaandjoel's wedding was one of the prettiest I can remember seeing since I've been on this board.

Thanks Stephanie! That means a lot to me because most of the wedding was DIY.

The Irving Arts Center has various rooms for rent, so another one beside the one with the low ceilings may be much nicer.....I've been to there numerous times over the years (I live in Irving) and it is really a nice place.  I didn't think of it until we booked my daughters venue elsewhere.

Another nice place (our 1st choice, but unavailable for the date she wanted) is Ruthe Jackson Center in Grand Prairie.

  • To update this Post:  The Colleyville Center underwent an interior renovation during the Summer of 2010 and we now have a beautiful wood laminate flooring that complements the great wall of Palladium windows.  The decor is clean, contemporary and neutral AND we are still the best value in the metroplex for DIY'ers! Stop by and see us - we'd love to show you around!
