2 checks, and 1 sad looking checking account later...

Our photographer and DJ are officially booked! I can't tell you what a load off it is to have these two done! All there is left to do is book a JOP and Hair/makeup! I'm so excited!

For photography, we decided to go with Max Aureli Photography. I haven't seen his name mentioned here, well, ever. However, the deal he gave us for about half what we were quoted everywhere else for the same quality, couldn't be passed up. So far, he's been awesome to work with, and super quick to respond to all my questions. Given my experience so far, and the work on his website, I would definitely recommend him, especially if you are on a budget!

For our DJ, we went with the board favorite DJ Melee. I couldn't be happier so far. His prices are awesome, and he doesn't make you feel like a line item like some of these "big" DJ companies. I contacted a few (just to do my research), and I couldn't get one of them to tell me their prices. I'm just not one to waste my time with a high pressure sales call, to only find out they want more than I'm willing to pay anyways.

Happy planning, ladies!

  • Congrats! I am using DJ Melee too, he is great.
  • Congrats! For a JOP I would like to recommend Sara Carson. She is out of Hartford but will travel. Just met her for the first time last week and I loved her! Gives you so many options to choose from or you can obviously do your own thing. And I'm on to hair and makeup next too so good luck!

  • Congrats!!  I also booked DJ Melee!
  • Congrats, those are big checks!
A word of caution for hair/makeup: I would not recommend recommend Primped and Polished via Bronze Effects Salon, in Enfield, CT: I chose them thinking they'd be cheaper than the other salons recommended on the knot, but I got charged triple what is quoted on their website. Definitely get recommendations, I've heard fabulous things about Naomi's salon.
Not sure if you booked your florist yet, but I cannot recommend Perfect Princess Events enough, I absolutely LOVED my flowers :)

  • Thanks for the makeup tip! I'm actually thinking about using Sara Faella out of RI. When I was considering having the wedding in RI, I heard great things about her and love her work.

I'm actually not using a florist, which is nice having one less big expense. I'm using flowers very sparingly, or possibly not at all. Flowers aren't really my thing, and I'd hate to spend a thousand dollars on something that will be dead days later. Thanks for the tip though!

    Yes!!  She's an excellent choice!
  • Congrats! Good checks, but I know the feeling...all these deposits are definitely hurting my head (and bank account)!
  • Exciting Checks! Love Melee! It's such a fun feeling to book someone- but then so sad when you look at your bank account...
  • Both awesome checks!!! Congrats!!!!

  • Congrats on the checks! I cannot wait to check those off of my list too!! Thanks for the photography recommendation. Do you know if they went lower than their listed prices? Is it rude to ask if they can go lower? I'm new at this, lol....and we have a very limited budget. I was hoping to spend $1500 or less on photography.

  • Depending on when your wedding is, I'm sure he'll work with you. For example, my wedding is a Friday evening in March. I'm payin 1600 for unlimited hours, rights to photos, a second shooter, and an E-session. VERY reasonable IMO. Shoot him an email, he's very flexible!
  • NICE!! Thanks for the quick response. Totally sent him an email. :)

Me too! My FI still buys my flowers, I guess it was how he was raised. I don't mind, because I know it's his way of doing something nice. I'm also using feathers, but I'm making feather flowers myself for bouquets, and possibly mixing roses made from sheet music in. I liked the feather ball centerpieces, but the ostrich feathers are so expensive and you need SO many, so I'm using branches with hanging candles! I think flowers are pretty, but too many make my allergies act up, and they're so expensive. So I don't mind saving myself a grand. Maybe I'll spring for a photobooth, who knows. Good luck!
