The Pros

Has anyone ever used The Pros for DJ or photography/videography? Any recommendations/critiques?

My best advice is don't use them.  I have heard nothing but horror stories, including breach of contract where they promise you a specific, experienced person, and give you someone who has no clue what they're doing on the actual wedding day.  At that point, you might be able to take legal action but you still have bad wedding photos/a terrible DJ/whatever and you can't change that.

Plenty of girls on these boards can give you suggestions for vendors in your budget.

I tend to disagree withthe other two brides. If you go to one of the Customer Appreciation Nights you actually get to pick your DJ and Photographer from the ones they have there. The Maryland branch is actually run out of Essex and he hires only local DJs and Photographers. I have been to several wedding where they have been the venders hired and I have seen excellent work.  As for communication prior they are required to call the bride the week of the wedding and you can contact them earlier if you want to sit down with them to discuss your wedding particulars. They are all professionals. There are cases where the one you selected may have an emergency ie..death in the family or a hspitalization and they have to send you someone else but even then the replacement will contact you a few days prior to your event. They also have specials that are available if you book multiple services with them. I reccomend checking them out.

I have to respectfully disagree with Mary Susan.  Time and time again, brides have come here saying they used the Pros and they thought they would be fine (despite having seen threads where other brides warn them to steer clear) because they were using someone with a great portfolio, years of experience, etc.  And then, the person they get is someone different - NOT because of a family emergency or something like that, just no explanation.

It seems to be way too common for me to just write it off as bad luck, and it also seems to be a bad business practice to use someone unexperienced as a replacement, even if there might be a legitimate reason for the original person to back out.  I repeat - we have seen it SO MANY times, that it seems to be the rule rather than the exception, and it's a risk I would be unwilling to take, particularly when there are so many other options out there.

I've had experience with the Pros and they've been great. I've actually booked them for my wedding. I went to one of their nights where you get to talk with them one on one and choose your vendors. I've been to several weddings where they have been used and people have nothing but good things to say. I've never heard anything negative about them until I started looking on the knot.

I was recently in a wedding where the Pros did photography and videography. I have to say they weren't very professional. The photographer was down right rude to the bridal party, and obnoxious. Her equipment belt kept falling off her waste and she had a general negative attitude. O and she also walked through our lines and asked us to move several times during the ceremony. Very unprofessional I thought. The bride and groom were pleased with the end result, but she didn't make for a very pleasant addition to the wedding imo.

The videographer was a little rude too. My friend had gotten the lowest video package they have, and when asked to do different things, he would tell us it wasn't in the package, which is all well and good, but he'd talk while the video was recording. And we'd say are you going to edit some of the audio out? "No she didn't pay for it." So among our conversation about boobs jobs and feminine products while we were getting ready for the wedding, you'll probably also hear him chiming in from time to time from behind the camera.

Thanks for all of the advice, girls! I was invited to one of their events next week where they have photographers and DJs to choose from. I wasn't necessarily looking for a videographer right now, but they have a promotion right now where you buy all 3 services for $2000. I thought that was a great deal but figured that there might be something wrong. I'm still going to go to the event, see what I feel, but I;ll definitely take everything you guys said into consideration. Definitely not signing anything yet!

That's the package my friend chose. Just be aware ahead of time that they do not do any editing with that package. That way you won't be surprised!

laurmd-I'm glad you asked for feedback on the Pros.  I have been wondering the same thing about if it really is a good deal.  I will be there at Martins West the 14th too with my fiance, is that when you are going? We'll have to catch up on here after the show and see...it's frustrating seeing so many mixed reviews :/
