How many stations?

Hi there,
My fiance and I are thinking about doing stations at our wedding but how many stations are really sufficient? Our caterer starts at 2 stations for a set price and then we can add more on for another $5 per person. We have never actually been to a stations reception but love the idea - what have you encountered?

I think we had about 7 "action" stations at our wedding that were attended by chefs and prepared by request, and then we had a couple just stationary items that people could munch on.

Our action stations were Turkey/Beef Tenderloin Carving Station,  Gumbo Station, 2 Pasta Action Stations, Mediterranean Station, Seared Scallop Station, Salad Station.

We also had spinach artichoke dip, an international cheese platter, and a fruit/veggie platter available for people.

We had 70 guests and I don't believe anyone waited in a line at all.

Definitely depends on your budget, but I would say at least 4... more if you can afford it. I would definitely make sure to have 2 options for vegetarians as well. Popular ones at weddings I've gone to were pasta station, meat carving station, mashed potato bar (that was a huge hit), salad station, Mexican station (that was a big hit too).... there's lot of options out there. I've noticed that people seem to love stations because they can eat what they want, how they like it... makes everyone happy.

We had:  carving station, potato martini bar; fruit/cheese, smoked salmon, and vegetables.  So 5.  We also had chicken tenders but I don't really count that.
