Tricky invitation to address!

How do you address one to a family with four children and the couple was married, got divorced and then got back together, but not remarried???

Re: Tricky invitation to address!

  • What is the legal name of the woman right now?  Would they be offended if not listed Mr and Mrs?  Do the children have the father's last name?
  • She goes by maiden -married last name.
  • I would go with separate lines because they aren't married now, like this:

    Ms. Jane Smith-Doe
    Mr. John Doe
    Kristin, Caitlin, Kevin, and Apple
    1114 Elm Street
    Toledo, Ohio  43566

But if you really don't want to do that, you could do this - which has NO last names.  The post office has to deliver it, because the street address is correct:

Jane, John, Kristin, Caitlin, Kevin, and Apple
    1114 Elm Street
    Toledo, Ohio  43566

  • If you have an inner envelope, the kids go only on the inner.

    The outer would be:

Mr. John Smith and Ms. Jane Doe-Smith

Nonmarried but co-habitating couples are addressed in this way.

However, sounds like a case where you can just call the (ex) wife and ask. That is usually easiest and least likely to offend.
  • Thanks for everyone's help!
