Pleasure/Honour- wording

I am getting ready to finalize the invitations, yay!
But, here is my dilema. According to Emily Post it should say the pleasure of your company...
However, my church doesn't have a church building but it still a very Christian wedding therefore leading me to The honour of your presence.

Emily Post says in a church building is when you use the honour and then pleasure is used for everything else.
However, I feel like since it's still a religious ceremony that honour should be used...
Wow, that's a jumbled mess.
Sorry.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Re: Pleasure/Honour- wording

  • I would say that if the wedding is being held at the location that church services are generally held (even though it isn't at a church) that you could use honour of your presence.  I think church building can be used to mean any building where religious services are held, even if it is in an office building.

However, I think if you are having a Christian ceremony not at a location that church services occur, you may be better using pleasure of your company.  So if the officiant is coming to the reception location to perform the ceremony, but church wouldn't normally meet there, maybe use pleasure.

    Alright. Thanks.
It's definitely not being held in the same place.
    Pleasure it is!

<div>I agree with all of this.</div><div>For example, if you are having a minister marry you and it's a Christian ceremony, but it's outdoors at a different location, you still use "pleasure of your company." In your case though, it sounds like you'll be on your church "grounds," so I think it's fine to use "honour of your presence."</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: Never mind the second part.</div>
  • I agree with PP. Thanks so much for this post, we are having and outdoor wedding and were going to order invitations next week so this was very helpful!!

  • We're not following the Post etiquette. We're asking for the pleasure of their company for a church ceremony.
