Wedding Insurance

Re: Wedding Insurance

  • I don't think it's worth it.  In the case of natural disasters (hurricanes, snow storms, ect.) your vendors will usually try their best to accommodate you .

Unless you think there is a chance you might call the wedding off, then it might not be a bad idea.

  • The only time I've ever heard wedding insurance being purchased is when the venue requires it (never in this area though). I wouldn't bother unless there is a reason the wedding will get called off.

Hurricane Irene hit on a Saturday night, and a lot of weddings were affected. It sounds like none of them were canceled, but many guests pulled out at the last minute. And those who did come (not to mention the vendors and staff at those weddings) were potentially put at risk. Canceling would have been the best course of action, but with so much money promised, there really was no way to do it.

Also, a few months ago, Cedar Grove ordered The Grove to stop holding events. My understanding is that the venue did not listen to the town, and the events went on as usual. Still, imagine if The Grove did obey the order!

While these are very unusual situations, it's something to think about.
  • Our friends wedding was during the snow storm in October. Ceremony had no electricity and the reception was cancelled. It was considered an act of God so I don't think they were accomodated.  We now have wedding insurance. For the amount of money we paid for it...it's worth it. It covers my dress (while at the seamstress), our vendors, etc.  We also had a friend who lost her dress to a fire at the bridal salon 2 weeks before the wedding. They had to pay out of pocket to rush order a new dress. Cost them 5 times the amount of the first dress. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

  • I had my wedding scheduled for hurricane irene and was able to reschedule everything w/out insurance. The only added costs was a little extra for the florist who lost some flowers (approx $200).  If you want the reassurance and can't live without that security, then get wedding insurance, but i promise it all works out and we are now happily married and everything turned out just as we had imagined on our "rescheduled" date.
