unusual/interesting venues

ok I have searched all through this site to see if somewhere, someone else asked this question. I am trying to plan a November 2012 MODERN Romeo and Juliet-inspired wedding. I have been searching all over the boards and the internet to find a venue in either NY or CT that will complement my "theme" (not really a theme, but you know what I mean). My heart was set on Morello Italian Bistro in Greenwich - BEAUTIFUL restaurant, delicious food, perfect for my take on a modern R+J reception. the problem with Morello is that it seems rather small, and parking is questionable. Also, since it is a regular restaurant, everything is separate. So now I am trying very hard to find a venue that is not "cookie cutter" wedding ballroom blahness. Any suggestions?

P.S., - we are trying to keep it under $100 per person.

I know you said modern Romeo and Juliet, but what exactly are you looking for in decor, architecture, etc.  That might make it a little easier for people to make recommendations.

I keep focusing on brick for some reason.....I guess something that looks like a church, but is light and airy at the same time. My decorations will consist mainly of white roses and candles and I think the brick will make it crazy cozy and romantic. Here are some pictures from Morello that show the type of place I'm looking for:

So like I said, candles and roses with something similar to the pictures, my colors are a dark teal, gold, and ivory with the tiniest bit of red for pop (like only in my bouquet and maybe on top of the cake). Another place we are planning to look at is Bill Miller's Castle, but it looks a little stuffy from the pictures....maybe I'm being too picky (probably has something to do with having so much time to plan)

How about Saint Clements Castle in Portland, CT? There is a beautiful stone fireplace there, as well as fountains, etc and the castle looks beautiful! The castle also has many red, and gold accents (also the roof of the castle is red) HTH!

I've never seen the inside, but maybe Branford House in Groton or Bill Miller's Castle in Branford?

    Good luck!

We are having our reception at Bill Miller's and chose it for its uniqueness and price. I would tell you though that it isn't "light and airy" but has a dark/rustic look to it (lots of dark woods, stone, fireplaces, etc.).  Also, candles are not allowed there due to all of the exposed wood but you could use the flameless ones and there is a charge for different colored linens.  I'm really excited about going there and have had only positive things said to me about the venue.  I would keep those factors in mind though!
    Good luck!

Im getting married at Bill Millers in July and Cheri told us that we can have candles as long as the flames are contained.  we are doing candles in hurricane glass and i emailed her specifically to ask about it.  she said as long as it cant tip over if someone knocks the table it would be okay...
