what's your father/daughter dance song?

Hi ladies -

I'm listening to songs and trying to figure out what song I want for the father/daughter dance...when I was little, I always thought it would be the song "Butterfly Kisses", but I don't know anymore...there's a new Phil Vasser song "She's on her way," which is really sweet.  I listened to all the songs TK recommended in an article, but don't like any...what song are you using??

Hope everyone's enjoying their weekend!

P.S...I know it's EXTREMELY early to be thinking about this...my mom just e-mailed me about the Phil Vasser song and it got me thinking!

Better to think about these things early than too late! You'll have tone of stuff to do over the next 16 months, so it's great to knock some things out now.

My dad and I will dance at the same time as FI and his mom to Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

Ooh, that's a cute idea to do it at the same time (as my FI and his mom are going to dance together, also)! Love it! And great song!

We picked a song that was appropriate to us and our music taste.  When I was growing up my dad and I always listend to Bob Seger and would go see him in concert.  We are dancing to Against the Wind because it is meaningful to us.

We danced to Daughter by Loudon Wainwright... My dad chose it so we went with it!

We danced to "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder, because he is one of my favorites and its slightly up-tempo so we wouldnt just sway and cry, lol.  Plus he wrote it for his daughter when she was born so its really meaningful.

My dad's idea is to do a medly of songs starting with disco and working our way through the decades until we end with something current.

So yeah, I'm going to veto that when I find something good to suggest. I feel like there are about 4 songs specifically made for father daught dance and most people use them and everyone cries and it's really sweet. Nothing against the classics (I cry every time I hear Butterfly Kisses & My Girl), but I'd like to do something different. My dad loves Sweet Love by Lionel Richie and I think that might work for us.

I am going to leave it entirely up to my dad.  He picked a song when my sister got married, and it worked out very well.  Besides, it's one less thing I have to decide on.  Best wishes with whatever you decide!  :-)

I wish we had a song that was meaningful to us, like you have Zen...maybe I'll ask my dad if he has an idea, but he's just not that type of guy...I can't see him having one! And yeah, I re-listened to Butterfly Kisses (a classic) and I think it's just too obviously a father/daughter dance song...we'll see! But thanks for the help ladies :)

My Dad and I are dancing to "Every Breath You Take" by The Police because when I was a little girl we danced to it every Friday night together.

My best friend danced to "Brown Eyed Girl" with her Dad and it was really sweet!

My dad and I are dancing to Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn.

    I love that song.

I'm thinking it's going to be the ballad version of "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart. My dad and I loved the movie when I was little, and one day it came on the radio and I relaly listened and it all fit together so well!

I'm thinking we are going to do "I Hope You Dance" from Leann Womack.  My dad has always supported my live life to the fullest, take risks and chances -type attitude and I feel like this song reinforces that support as I've grown through the years and his wishes for me.
Me: 35/Hubs: 35 - just moved to Minneapolis from Chicago. TTC for 18 months and expecting baby #1 April 18, 2012! Needed IVF after a few failed rounds of IUI and it worked!

My dad and I danced to this also!  My parents listened to this song a lot when I was growing up, and as kfrees said Stevie wrote it about his daughter...so it was perfect!

I'm a fan of anything that is either meaningful to you and your parents/dad, or just something fun. I didn't have anything really sentimental with dad as far as music, but he was always a motown fan, and so was J's mom, so we all danced at the same time to "Pride and Joy" by Marvin Gaye. It's short, fun, upbeat...my dad even sang it while we danced! =)

I personally can't stand most of the over-wrought drippy sentimental songs that makes everyone cry. But to each his/her own! =)

I can't get Brown Eyed Girl out of my head, jbll! Hmmm...

I asked my dad the other day if he had any thought of what he'd like to dance to and he said no...thanks for the help, dad! :)

My dad loves "I loved her First" by Heartland.  It's a beautiful song, but several of my girlfriends used it as their songs, so I'm hesitant to use it, too.

Ooooh, I LOVE that song! I hadn't even thought of using it...GREAT idea!

I'm thinking about this waaaay too early, too!  Not even sure we're going to do a father/daughter dance, but if we do, I'd like to use "Wild World" by Cat Stevens.  My dad is a big Cat Stevens fan, and he used to play that song on his guitar when I was little...

For the mother/son dance (which my FI really wants to do, he's a Mama's Boy, ha ha), we're thinking "Blessed" by Elton John.  His mom loves Elton, and it's a beautiful song!  (Would work for either parent/child dance, too.)

I'm still deciding between "I loved her first" and "My wish"
