Help! I need a venue. Planning a beach wedding in NC while in CO

Hi,

I am trying to plan a beach wedding in NC, but am currently living in CO. I am anticipating about 80 people at the wedding. We are looking to be anywhere between Beaufort and the Fort Fisher area, but most likely within an hour of Wilmington.

We want a waterfront wedding and a reception location overlooking the water. We are not very formal people, nor do we have the budget to be (doing a lot of DIY projects). But we love older places that have some charm. We'd love to have our wedding and reception in the same location, but we are not limited to that.

Any suggestions? I am stumped at this point on places to check out and I'm starting to sweat it, as we'd like to have a Sat. wedding in Spring 2011. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! Cassie

I just had my wedding at the Surfside Center in Surf City, NC (Topsail Island)

Very amazing place. Our ceremony was on the beach and our reception overlooked the ocean. It was AMAZING!!

    That sounds beautiful Kaitlyn!

There's also the aquarium at Fort Fisher, which I believe you can have both your ceremony & reception at. I've also seen someone having their ceremony at the actual fort/museum at Fort Fisher - it looked beautiful!

I know a lot of people also get married at the light house on Bald Head Island which I think is a great setting.

we just got married on oak island and got married right on the beach and had our reception at the beach house. there are several beaches in the area that have event friendly houses. it was very relaxing and nice b.c we weren't on any time line, didn't have to worry about set up and break down and being out of a venue at a certain time. it was very private. we stayed there for three days. it was our rehearsal night, lodging, wedding, and wedding reception all in one.

Thanks everyone! This is very helpful and I'm going to look into some of these options. If anyone can think of anywhere else to suggest, I'm all ears! :-)

There's always the Cape Fear River Deck too.  It's not ocean, but waterfront and more protected by possible bad weather.

I'm getting married on the beach and having my reception at Halyburton Park in Wilmington, it's not waterfront though.

Another suggestion is the River Deck in WIlmington, it's beautiful. It was our first choice, but was booked on our date.
