Bridal Party

At what point in the time line can we start asking people to be in the wedding party?

Re: Bridal Party

  • If your wedding date is in June 2011 like your profile says, it is way too soon to ask. I asked about 8 months out from my wedding.
  • Probably not too early, but I asked mine the week after I got engaged which was 1 year before my wedding. I have had no probelms and everyone has known about things such as costs and locations well in advance. They also have helped a lot with the wedding having so much notice. I guess it depends on the person, but my MOH is an MOH in another wedding this year and a few of my bridesmaids are in multipule weddings this year. So it gave them a chance to figure out their schedules early too.

  • Wait til 6-9 months out. It will save you a ton of headaches.

  • It really depends on you and your friends that you want to ask. I asked before I was even officially engaged.  I  then asked again like to make sure after we did get engaged and that was 2 years out.
I also am not having my girls help me with their "duties" as some would put it. I don't believe they have "duties" other then to get the dress, look decent and show up.
    I'd suggest a year out.

  • Don't have one.

Sorry. That was unnecessary. Just make sure that you pick girls who won't turn into uberbitches at six months out.

Really though, I think anything undera  year is fine! If you can wait a bit longer, that's probably ideal.
  • I say whenever you have a date set in stone. But also agree that not more than one year out.
  • I would say between 6-8 months before the wedding.

If people ask you before hand who is in the BP just say that you have been getting other things in line first.
  • No more than a year. Eight months is probably better.

I asked after I got engaged, at 1 year out. One of my BMs is in a wedding 2 weeks after mine, so it did help her plan her schedule a little better. But really, you don't need to have a WP until you need to start looking for dresses, which is well under a year out.

Just don't expect them to be as excited about your wedding as you are.

  • I asked a month after we got engaged, about 10 months out. I think it depends on who's in the wedding party. Mine is all family (sisters and cousins) and my best friend since I was 12, so nothing was likely to change between then and wedding time.

  • I asked my bridal party right away.  But I am also 36 and have a small group of old close friends.  I do regret who I chose, although I didn't think my sister in law would say yes
  • I asked right away, almost 2 years in advance. It gave everyone time to save and take time off since our wedding is mini destination. There are 7 months to go and they are always saying they are glad they had a lot of time.
