Just Engaged! Friday versus Saturday Weddings

Hi Ladies! I need some advice.  We just got engaged about a month ago (Valentine's Day!) and are looking for venues and trying to pick dates in September 2014.

Most places are significantly cheaper if you are looking at Friday nights versus Saturday nights for a wedding / reception. I would love some advice / opinions on this idea. 

Sidenote: we live in the DC metro area and our families are both from Pittsburgh. Not sure if I should consider the distance in making a decision or not.

    Check with your VIPs and see what works for them (I completely understand the Saturday vs. Friday thing in DC...) If those people are ok with a Friday, then go for it. If they have some serious issues, maybe consider an alternative? You should pick a few dates and see what works for your parents/siblings/bffs, etc.

    Congrats! My family is also from Pittsburg. We decided to do a Friday wedding because we're saving a significant amount. I talked to my VIPs and they were all fine with a Friday - I think most are just taking off work and driving down Friday morning since it'll be later in the evening. Talk to them and see what they say - if you have an evening Friday wedding, it may not be too much of a hassle for them, but I'd definitely ask.

    Just one thing we found out this weekend, if you are looking at using a church a Friday wedding may mean an early afternoon cermoney.  We were looking at a Friday date in particular, after talking with the church the latest the could get us in was 2pm because Friday evenings are reserved for rehersals for Saturday.  We decided to skip this as it would mean extra time off for the majority of our guests.  

    Otherwise if it works for you and the cost savings are there go for it!

    Congrats< I just got engaged this February as well... two days after you! :) 

    We decided to go with a Friday ceremony/reception in May 2014.  We have a lot of out of towners, but also figured over a year in advance notice was enough time for them to plan for time off work/school and make arrangements.  It also comes down to what YOU and your fiance want.  I also figured whether its a Friday or Saturday, the same people will come. :)
