QOTD

Do you think celebreities or public figures get a pass on etiquette when it comes to wedding? Do you think if some of them posted on TK that they would get flame for their ideas/plans?

I think in general that celebrities can get an etiquette pass but public figures (like government officials) are more bound to etiquette.  I don't think any of them would post on TK and if they did, they wouldn't let it known who they really are.
  • I also think that they do get a pass. The only execption seems to be politicians.
I think that if they were to post their ideas on TK, I think as long as no one knew who they were, they would get the same treatment that others get. Now if they let everyone know who they are, most people would still give them a pass. But I do think there are knotties out there who would let them know they are in the wrong.

  • They might get a pass on etiquette with their friends. If you're friends with a celeb I highly doubt you'll tell them they aren't following etiquette. General public won't let it pass though. I agree that politicians probably wouldn't. They have a reputation to uphold. I'm sure they wouldn't want to piss off their guests. I am willing to bet they would get flamed on TK.

It's funny you should ask.  I was watching "Say Yes to the Dress", (I'm so ashamed) and there were a bunch of women that were married to NY Yankees players.  They were so tacky!!  All I could think was that having money isn't the same as having taste.

  • I don't follow a whole lot of celebrity or public weddings, but I do think they of all people should be the most conscientious of the rules of etiquette, especially when it comes to social engagements.  If you're asking if I think they already do receive passes, I'd say the answer is yes - we're more willing to be forgiving of those who have money and fame, as unfortunate as that is.  But I don't think they necessarily should.

I also agree with julbgordo, if a celebrity posted on TK I doubt anyone would know, and thus said celebrity would be subject to flaming just like everyone else!  If they were known to be a celebrity, I don't know, but I still think it's likely.

  • Unfortunately celebrities get passes on all kinds of things in life and weddings are no exception. They also get judged way hardcore on just about everything, just depends on which "side" you're on.

If they were to post on TK, I don't think anyone would believe it was really them. They would probably call them trolls.

Why are you ashamed? I think every girl here has watched it at some point. No reason to be ashamed.

If you watch the followup to that episode, where the bride goes in for a fitting, you find out that her fiance had been traded to the Washington Nationals - and, surprise surprise, you don't hear from or see any of the Yankees Wives ever again.  I bet they dropped her faster than a hot potato the second he was traded, and that made me both really sad that she couldn't have initially gone shopping with good friends, but also glad that she wouldn't be subject to their cattiness and witchiness anymore...

Especially if they mention how expensive their wedding is going to be.

  • I guess my question is coming from the tiered reception the Royal wedding was. I know that if a bride on here posted about having a tiered reception she would most likely get flamed. Or how Chelsea Clinton told her dad that he had to drop like
    10lbs before the wedding.

I agree with PP that most people are quick to forgive give those with money or power or fame. I totally know that these people would never post on TK, and even if they did no one would believe them if they said who they would.

I just think that if a poster came on here and told us she told her dad he had to lose weight before the wedding she would get flamed really bad. When with Chelsea it was a lol moment in the media.

I watched both of those episodes as well and I wonder if she would have gone with the more simple dress had she been with her true friends.  I felt bad for her because I think that simpler dress was what she really wanted, and like she said, she could have worn jewelry to dress it up.  True friends would have told her to get what she wanted, not push her into a dress she wasn't sure about.

To answer the question, I agree with most PPs.  Celebrities ARE often given passes, but I do not think that they necessarily SHOULD be.  I do believe that if they posted on TK without revealing their identity that they would be flamed for some of the things they want to do, just like everyone else.

  • It hit People Mag today that Kim Kardashian is engaged to a New Jersey Nets player Kris Humphries... they've been engaged for a week but kept it a secret to get paid by People for the exclusive. I think thats flameworthy for sure.

But, rumor has it the ring is worth 2 million, and since Kris's salary is public record (3.2 million) I wonder if the People shoot helped cover the cost =)

One of the first things my FMIL told my FI after we got engaged (besides congrats of course) was "You better lose some weight before then". I wanted to smack her. He wants to lose some weight for his own well being but I'd still marry your son regardless of that because I love him.

I also agree that people would get flamed for saying those things and most likely have been flamed in the past.

i guess not even people with a ton of money follow the 2 month salary guide for e-ring shopping!

i also think the episode with the yankee's wives was sad.  doubt the red sox wives would have treated her that way!  lol

Ugh, that was my FMIL as well! (Well, first was congrats, then "What color do you want me to wear and what style of dress?" Then looked at FI and was like "You really need to lose weight before the wedding...better hold off on it for a while" I wanted to smack her across the back of her head for that!! Who cares? I love him extra weight and all.

Does this mean that the Yankee wives/GFs/FIs don't have beards because it is in the Yankee contracts that they have to be clean cut? <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />
