Charging to set the table?

My venue is charging me to set the table with silverware and a water glass $1.50 per setting and then if I would like my guests to have a linen napkin it is $2.50 a setting. Is this normal? I thought it would be included.

Re: Charging to set the table?

  • Wow, that's expensive!  I would have thought that would be included, too.  I haven't heard about them charging to do this, but then again this is the only wedding I've planned, haha.  Can you do it yourself?

  • I've never heard of a charge, but I would speak to your coordinator and see if they will waive the fee since it was not clearly outlined when you first discussed the expenses and signed the contract.  I was told my venue didn't charge for cake cutting, then they tried to charge us, but ended up comp'ing it.

  • I asked if I could do it myself and they said no. I feel like I am being nickel and dimed by this place. It has a good reputation but it is ending up being way over the budget I planned. I told her everything up front and have choose the cheapest packages. To rent the place with a 6 different appatizer buffet and a beer and wine bar for 100 people is about 8 grand. And thats on a Friday night! Ugh... I think I will have to suck it up. :/

Is it bad that I am hoping people don't show up?

I would ask them about this. I think that is a little weird and very unheard of.
  • I asked, I even asked about the seperate rental fee along with the minimums spent on food and drinks. I swear the lady said if the food and beverage costs meet the minimum of 5 grand there is not an additional room fee of one thousand dollars. But now I have six grand in food with the thousand dollar room fee.

Looking back I wish I would have looked around at other venues...

  • That is ridiculous.  Have you looked at your contract?  Is it written in there?
