Gumballs for Candy Buffet?

Any idea how many 1-in gumballs would be needed to fill a jar approximately 10 inches tall and 8 inches wide?  See picture below...it's the jar in the back left.

Re: Gumballs for Candy Buffet?

  • I say buy a bag and see.  If the bag does not fill it up determine how much more is needed by how much space is left...
  • I can't really help at all - but it sounds like a math problem I came across in middle school and it scared me a little! eek. I would just try it out - if you've already go the jar, just go buy the gumballs - if not, see if you have something similar or smaller in proportion then do the math afterwards...

  •   PP is right - a 8" x 10" cylinder will hold 503 cubic inches... so you could definitely safely assume that 500 gumballs would fill it, but this doesn't take into account the air voids so you'll have extra....   My best suggestions would be get a small bag, pour them in, and determine from that how many more bags you will need.
  • If you don't have enough gumballs, you could put  smaller container upside down in the middle of the larger one to take up some space.
