Started planning your ceremony music yet?

My brother plays the piano very well and will be providing all the music (and accompanying a soloist). I took lessons once upon a time and you would think I could remember some classical ones that would be good for a wedding! So far I have:

Canon in D
Ode to Joy
Trumpet Voluntary
Fur Elise

Which reminds me........I still need to order the sheet music for the soloist and my brother to practice.......

  • I decided to go a little non-traditional with ceremony music. I have found this group The Piano Guys and am loving their stuff. So this is what I think I am using.

Parents and grandparents entrance: A Thousand Years

Bridal party entrance: Can't Help Falling in Love

Me entrance: Marry Me by Train (violin, super pretty)

Recessional : (not sure on this one yet)

  • Since I dont have much of a bridal party and we are not doing parents / flowergirl, etc, there's not much to figure out.

I will be walking to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, but I am not sure if I want a sung version or the Piano Guys version as shown above.

As for recessional, I want it to be something fun, but still appropriate, so I'm still not sure what I will use for that.

  • I saw a video of the Piano Guys on Youtube and it was pretty cool!

Our bridal party will walk in to a piano version of "Marry Me" by Train. Haven't decided on my song yet or the recessional.

My brother has fun with the "ragtime" style of piano music and I think I'll have him play that when FI and I come back in to do the pew dismissal. Here is an example by Scott Joplin:

I love the piano guys version, it is soo pretty!
And that's my concern with the recessional one, FI loves it and thinks its fun but I am wondering how appropriate it will be :)

  • I think this was the first thing I had planned for our wedding!  I play violin and piano and have played for many of my friends weddings, so I've had lots of experience and know what I like and don't like.

I have a string quartet (well, a violin, viola, cello and electric guitar) of my orchestra friends from high school who are going to be doing all the pre-service music.  They'll play some of the wedding standard stuff as people are being seated (Air on G String, Canon, etc.).  For the mom's, they will play Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.  Then, the best part....for the processional (bridal party and me), they are going to play Journey's Don't Stop Believing.  (think Wedding Singer....except I'm not dumping my groom at the alter :) )

During the ceremony, my sisters are going to sing 2 songs.  One is called Love Is, and it's based on the "Love is Patient, Love is Kind" reading.  We sang it at my parents 45th anniversary, so it holds special meaning with my family.  Then, during the unity ceremony, they are going to sing "Parents Prayer" (if you're familiar with standard wedding music, it's the one that goes "let go of two that they might become one").

For the recessional, I let my mom pick some of her favorites, since she's played for weddings for over 50 years.  So, our cellist is going to switch to keyboard and play some standards like Ode to Joy, Trumpet Voluntary, etc.

The only concern we have about music is figuring out how to mic everyone.  Our venue is outdoors and has hook ups for about 3 mics, and I borrowed a PA system from a friend, but we need to acquire a few more mics in the next few months.

  • We're going non-traditional as well. We love the song 18th Floor Balcony by Blue October, but it's so long thay we would have to have everyone walk down to it. Which I really don't mind because there is a beautiful instrumental part a couple minutes into it which is when I would start walking down. We will just have to make sure it'll time out right. Recessional will be Beautiful Day by U2.

I'll be walking in to Halo by Beyonce.

  • My mom is convinced I need churchy music for the wedding.  I'm going with Canon in D for when I walk in, and then I have no idea for the rest.  I hate Wagner's Bridal March, so we won't be using it at all.

I like Good Life by one republic, if I could find a piano version or maybe rhythm of love.  I will hopefully be able to sneak in some nontraditional song.

  • I'm a musician, so this was the first thing I planned.  I'm afraid FI didn't get much of a choice, but he assumed I would pick.  We also only have two people in our WP, so there is only one processional song.

Processional: "You Are" by Lionel Richie
Bridal processional: first half of "Inseparable" by Natalie Cole; only until the bridge
Recessional: bridge to the end of "Inseparable"

  • I was actually just talking to a friend of mine about this! He is a guitar player in a local band, and I've known him since my freshman year of high school - he has a beautiful voice and such a unique style.

We're meeting with him in the next couple of weeks to discuss a playlist and so he can learn the songs that we want. I'll walk down to Mark Knopfler's "Storybook Love" (the song from "The Princess Bride"), and our recessional is going to be "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World". We haven't planned any other songs, but I asked that our pre-music be ones that are popular enough to be recognized without the lyrics and make people smile.

    I'm really excited by this!!
