Gift table?

I've seen the card and monetary gift holders. But do you do an actual gift table at the reception? Or anywhere else (parties, etc?)

Re: Gift table?

  • It depends on the region. Around here, people bring cards to a wedding. Rarely is there a boxed gift. So, gift tables are uncommon. A card box is usually put on a small table & if someone happens to bring a boxed gift, they can shove it on there too. What have you seen in your local weddings?
  • We had a table in our reception room that had our card box and guest book on it.  At the end of the night our venue took our gifts upstairs for us.

For other parties, I"m assuming you mean showers? If that's the case, yes, there is almost always a table or area for gifts.
  • I think it's fine to have a table on standby just in case, for all of your events. Logistically, it just makes sense. You can but the card box on it.

  • OP I'm not sure where you're from, but in the South a gift table is extremely common and is actually usually pretty full by the end of the reception.  It's one etiquette rule that Southerners routinely break (you're technically supposed to ship gifts before the wedding) but that's because we like to see full gift table.... which of course, requires a table.

  • I would have the table to be safe: and a set of eyes to keep on it.

My friend is making a card holder for the shower AND the wedding and we're having a gift table. I was one of those naughty guests that showed up with an extremely large present because we picked it up on the way to the wedding and wrapped it in the hotel room...apparently we weren't the only ones having problems with the registry because just about every other guest there did the same thing.

Just make sure someone methodically moves the gifts to a safe place and it should be fine :)

  • I've never been to a wedding without a gift table.  It is also what goes in your social circle though.  If a gift table is considered grabby and rude, you should probably skip it.  If that is the case, your guests will probably also know that their gifts need to be shipped or delivered to you before or after the wedding.

If you have a table, make sure it is in a place where it is easy to keep an eye on.  People get pretty ballsy when they think nobody is looking.

This.  I live in the south and there is ALWAYS a gift table at a wedding because guests always bring gifts to the wedding and you need a place to put them.  At the end of the evening it's always full so we will definitely have one.  I don't think it's rude if you know you will need one.

Yes, we had a table.  People brought physical gifts.  It had the cardbox (birdcage) and some vases with rocks and lace pomanders on top to make it not look so empty when there were no gifts on it at the start of the night.  Once the cocktail hour was over the table was moved out of the way to keep things safe and get it out of the action.
  • This! I've been too or in dozens of weddings and have expected a gift table. Your call though if you choose to have one or not.
