invitation war

Sooo... I have been searching and searching for tie dye invites - and have come to the conclusion that I am not going to find them... so I started hunting and on Sweetheart Shoutout I found these

http://www.sweetheartshoutout.com/p-62-thats-what-she-said.aspx

they would be in a different color scheme than what that shows BUT they would in a way match my STDs since I have the "people " on them as well ...
My STDs are here   http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/product/9665/signature_white_textured_save_the_date_cards_fondest_flowchart.html

well my mom and dad have vetoed the invitations I like because they are not formal enough since we are having a wedding in a hotel--- nevermind the fact that I am determined to have glow sticks every where and the table names are going to be named after different areas of a music festival

I found these that I thought had the look of tie dye until the sample came - and  I hate the ribbon and the card - and you cannot go without the ribbon or they look horrible... and the cards are just not the right color

http://www.invitationsbydavidsbridal.com/catalog/search.cmd?keyword=dbn9855l3l&x=0&y=0

I really like the first ones though - and basically have been forbidden from having them ... i don't get it - I don't want a hoity toity formal feel to the wedding... yes it is in a hotel but I am a bride who originally wanted to get married in the middle of a music festival

That 3rd choice is amazing!  I think it would really go with the style you're seeking of that elegant but music festival feel.  My FI and I frequent that circle and I really think it's the prettiest of all the options I've seen you post or have been recommended including those I've recommended too.  And for $65 for the digital PDF file, you can print that bad boy yourself.

  • I am ready to scream and seriously just say I am getting married at the music festival- and skipping the whole big wedding thing - -- i like most of those - the wedding paper divas one was my fav and then the concert poster tten etsy one that almost looks like peacock feathers

my mother hates every single one of them and says they innappropriate - how are they inappropriate?  can someone else please explain this to me.... ?

  • has she showed you examples of what she thinks is appropriate?
    Is she paying for them?
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • she is not paying for them if i can help it but she is paying for most of the wedding and since she is holding onto that ass ammunition for what she wants me to have and what she feels is appropriate - basically our wedding is turning into my mom's opinions and judgements about everything - and some how the idea that i cannot have a "loud " invitation for a hotel wedding - and what she thinks is appropraite is not us or I just dont like because something looks off - like the one from david's bridal that i posted - they are not the exact feel of what i want but i thought they were close - but when the sample came they look bad - and the colors are really off looking - the cardstock doesnt really look like it goes very well and they are just not what i wanted and the ribbon is all pretty in the picture but looks ridiculous on the invite itself in your hand and the colors don't match right with the ribbon either.

I have said from the start that my wedding was not going to the tradional thing, and the only reason i said ok to the hotel was because i could have everything there and guests wouldn't have to rent cars when coming from out of town to get from place to place for the wedding.

  • Our wedding is also very nontraditional punk rock theme and I basically had to sit down with my parents and explain that they had theory day to celebrate their love together however they wanted, and now Z and I have our turn. Maybe think about turning down their offer to pay for things? If you pay for it yourself, you can be as "loud" as you want.
  • I think this is one of those things where you have to either do what your mom wants because she's paying or you have to pay for yourself.  It sucks.

My dad wants to pay for our wedding.  But I also know that his money comes with strings so we agreed to split it 50-50.  He's paying for the reception location and food, and my FI and I are paying for everything else.  So basically, my dad has complete control over the menu and the timing of the reception, but we have control over everything else because we're paying for it.  And major decisions my FI and I get at least 50% of a vote, and we edge out my parents because we're the bride and groom.

It's not easy.  My bank account hurts.  But I wanted something a bit more non-traditional than my parents (and his) wanted for us, so we have to be willing to pay for it.  I really hope you can work it out with your mom.  Sending you good luck vibes!
  • This is hard and why I am thankful (sorta) that we have to pay for the wedding ourselfs.  I am not one to hold my feelings in and I prob would have already went off on my mother.  Things are VERY dif now then even just 5 years ago when I got married to my late husband...weddings are more fun and if that is the feel your going for DO WHAT YOU WANT!  But know she might take the money away...

  • I wish we could pay for it all but there is just no way... My original plan was really to just get married at Shakori music festival but that got shot down immediately and we settled on a venue. I love the venue and it makes sense for the out of town people and not having to go all over but my mom just has "the way it's supposed to be" in her head... Apparently all the invites I like are not for a hotel wedding and more for a back yard wedding according to her. But it seems everything I like she has the complete opposite opinion on. She HATES the save the dates I picked. Part of the problem is my sister had a very traditional wedding. Church ceremony / banquet hall reception. Photographer and all. I did not want to get married in the church , do not want a photographer , fairly small wedding party and honestly most of the people that were at my sisters wedding 12 years ago have either passed or are too old to make the trip. So I am not worried about offending anyone with being slightly off beat she is though

Maybe get some plain white invites with black type that are kinda fancy looking (for the parents) then do something like this to them?

  • Good luck!  I was trying to find the link I had on Pinterest for dip dying the sides of business cards but it wouldn't connect.  The end result was something that looked really cool with a couple different colors, but still managed to look professional.
