*reasonable flowers in bulk?

I am doing an event for a local charity and am making the flower arrangements on my own. I need a plcae that will sell flowers in bulk at a reasonable price. I called the hartford florist supply but you need a CT Sales and use tax number in order to buy from them since they are wholesale....any suggestions on where to go for a reasonable priced bulk flowers in CT?

thanks!

  • Our florist was Flore in Woodbury.  She did my bouquets, bouts and corsages, but she taught me how to make my own centerpieces, and price matched wholesale prices that I found online for those flowers.  She also gave me better prices on vases and threw in wire and stakes for free.  Lori is the owner.  She's very open to DIY customers, so you might try her out.  Most of the flower wholesalers in CT require a sales and use tax ID, so finding someone like Lori may be the way to go.  I did find a few wholesalers online that will ship to you, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend going that route.  If you have any problems with the flowers, you're screwed.  Lori checked everything she got in for me and refrigerated them until I wanted to pick them up.  There was actually a problem with some of the flowers, and she took care of it and had new flowers in for 6am the next day.  It definitely helps to have a pro on your side.  Alternatively, you might try Stew Leonards or Costco.

  • There is a farm in Guilford that sells its flowers. Depending on the season, they could offer some awesome blooms! I cannot remember the farm's name, but he is also one of the contacts at the Dudley Farm in Guilford. I would try calling there. I like to try and support local farms, so even if the place in Guilford wouldn't work, try calling farms closer to your venue. I am sure they will be thankful for your business!
  • You could try whole foods or sams club.
