Am I making a mistake by not having a registry?

All of the details of the wedding are coming together nicely (or as nicely as any bride could hope for.)  But I haven't sent out my wedding invitations yet because I'm not sure what to do about registering for gifts.  I don't need anything.  That's the problem I guess.  And also my fiance and I aren't going to be able to take a Honeymoon this year so I can't register at one of those honey moon web pages or with AAA (which is what  lot of my girlfriends have done.)  So my question is - am I making a mistake for not putting together a gift registry?

    I'd put together a little something if you two can do upgrades of items that you have that might be older.

    Beyond that, don't send your invitations for another month.  If your wedding isn't until October, invitations are sent in August - and don't put anything in your invitations about a registry or gifts.

    If you don't have a registry some people will give you money and other people will give you totally random things that you may or may not want.  Some people may be rather annoyed at you for not having a registry.  The top of this board has a sticky with ideas of things you could register for if you don't need china and such.

    This has no bearing on when you send your invitations since registry information doesn't belong in invitations anyway.

    We finally broke down and put together a small registry.  We really don't need anything but had enough people asking where we are registered that we finally did it.  At least it will give them an idea of our taste.

    At first I wasn't going to do a registry either for the same reasons, but now I am so glad I did, because I am getting all the gifts I truly want (not really need). Otherwise, you might get blessed with 4 toasters, 5 blenders, and 20 muffin tins at your shower!!

    I personally think it's best to register.  You can pick the gifts that you really want/need as opposed to random items you might never use.  You still might get some random gifts but most people shop off registries nowadays.

    You should register. If you don't need anything in particular, consider things you wouldn't mind upgrading, or maybe fun things you'd like to do like tickets to your favorite sporting event or a concert since you're not doing a honeymoon anytime soon. Like pps have said, people are going to ask you and half of them will try giving you something anyways even if you don't register.

    If you really don't want things for yourself, you might consider setting up a site for your guests to make donations to your favorite charity or charities. Then your guests will be able to do something on your behalf that you find really meaningful.
