Passport

For those of you ladies that have already gotten married, which documents did you send in to get your new passport with your married name?  I need to get a move on this, and I was just reading through the guidelines.  This is the part I'm wondering about:

An original or certified copy of your marriage certificate or the government-issued document evidencing your legal name change under federal or state law.

Does that mean that I can send in the receipt/document that the SS office gave me that stated that my name has been changed?  I've only ever heard of people sending in their marriage cert.  I'd rather not send that in if I don't have to, but what that other 'goverment issued document' is seems kind of amorphous.

Any ideas?

Re: Passport

  • I just sent in my marriage license and my old passport along with the application. I think they have you fill out a renewal app and pay the renewal fee unless your passport was released less than a year ago, in that case it's free!

They do send back your old passport, so you can keep it for the memories/stamps you've already accumulated. I lost my Cancun and Fiji stamps :0(

Ditto - I sent my marriage license (official copy from the town hall - needs to have the raised seal) and my at-the-time current passport along with the application and the check for the fee (same as the renewal passport fee).  You also have to take a new picture if your picture is older than 6 months old.  They will send everything that you send to them back to you, which is good so that you can save your old passport stamps <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />
