Dress Budget between $400 and $900

Where would you recommend dress shopping if that were your budget and you want to get the most for your money? Naturally, I'd like to save as much money as possible but want a beautiful dress. A-line, ball gown, something in that direction ideally. Any suggestion? Thanks!

I went to Modern Bride and my dress was right in the middle of that range. They had lots of options to choose from within that budget.

I got my dress at Marry and Tux in Nashua and they were able to work with anyone's budget

I went to Modern Bride & Formal (Bedford) and 125 Bridal (Plaistow), and they both had lots of dresses in that price range. Modern was definitely cheaper, but the experience I had (and the dress I fell in love with) was at 125 Bridal. GL!!

I also went to Marry and Tux and told them i didnt' want to see anything over 1000. I got a dress that was beyond my expectations. Just be honest with the sales person right off the bat about your budget, i can't imagine anything worse than falling in love with a dress that is out of your price range. good luck

Thank you everyone, I was afraid this budget was going to be unrealistic. I saw a dress from Mary and Tux and a bridal showcase that looked stunning but it was $1200 and I was afraid that was going to be the typical price for their gowns.

Country Bridals in Jaffrey is worth a look as well.

Also, if you can convince the store to sell you the "sample" gown on display (assuming it is in decent condition), you might save some money there as well. Good luck!

I originally had a budget of $900 for my dress and I tried on some great ones in that range but the dress I fell in love with was $1,100 and was totally worth the extra $200! I bought my dress at 125 Bridal, my consultant was Briana-- she was great! The very first dress she pulled was the one! She said when I described what I was looking for that I described that dress!! =)

    GL!

That's actually mid-upper range for M&T; their most expensive gowns are around $1700.

As far as price ranges are concerned, I found consultants were pretty upfront with me about the ranges their dresses fell in. I'm sure if you call around to shops, they can tell you whether they have a decent selection of dresses in that price range.

I purchased my gown from Marry & Tux and had a fantastic experience with Lindsay as my consultant, but I also had a great experience at Madeleine's Daughter. They do carry far more expensive gowns than M&T, but my consultant there, Sadie, did a fantastic job staying well under the budget I gave her. It can't hurt to give them a call for prices, too :)

Modern Bride, (Bedford), Country Bridal (Jaffrey), or Marry & Tux, (Nashua) are all great places to look.

I personally don't like David's Bridal--but they do have some lesser expensive gowns.

I think 125 Bridal (Plaistow) and Madeline's Daughter (Portsmouth) are at the higher-end of the spectrum...so stay away from those if you're budget conscious.

I ordered the dress from Modern Bride during their annual sale, (week of Thanksgiving), and got the dress for just under $600, (but then had to pay $250 for alterations--hem and because of weight loss--dress had to be taken in).

They also had a section of sample/discontinued dresses that were really cheap. If you are lucky--you might find one of those that you like.

Go to Country Bridal in Jaffrey and check out their sale rack. Even with alterations, my dress came in on the lower end of your budget! I'm sure they'd be able to direct you in the right direction for a new, in-budget, dress as well.

I've used them for three bridesmaids dresses and now my dream dress, and I couldn't be more impressed with Cathy and her team!

Thank you ladies! That's great news to hear and I will definitely take a look at those shops. Very exciting :)

Modern Bridal in Bedford is good. Also, as a PP said, if you aren't against a sample then that may be an option. My sister recently got a $1400 Maggie for $650 because it was the sample. The owner of the shop was going to clean and press it along with making sure it was like new. She picks it up in January.

I found my dress at Marry and Tux but ended up buying it right from an Alfred Angelo store instead and ended up saving almost $300. Alfred Angelo has since opened a store in Danvers, which would have been much easier for me. Thankfully they opened in time for my mom and bridesmaid to all order from them. Can't recommend them enough actually! Be a smart consumer, and shop around. Lots of shops sell the same lines, see who can give you the best deal. Good luck!
