Anyone else with 50 guests or LESS?

We intended to have small wedding and only invited 48 people. It looks like we'll have 30 guests now. I don't mind. I do wish a little that we had more guests coming. Oh well. What can you do?

So....anyone else with a guest list this small? How are you doing seating? We are planning on a family style table (one big long table) versus a few round tables. I'm trying to decide if I should just let people seat themselves or if I should do planned/assigned seating? I'm kind of leaning towards assigned seating since we have guests coming from Taiwan that won't know anyone but us, plus some family members who have not met FI's family at all yet.

Thoughts? Ideas? Just curious....

Re: Anyone else with 50 guests or LESS?

  • We will have just about exactly 50 people. I haven't made my seating chart yet, but I plan to do assigned tables. I've seen in other posts, that you should plan on having a full extra table if you do open seating, in case families can't sit together, etc... and I don't want to spend the extra $$ to rent another table, chairs, linens... So, it makes sense to me :)
  • We have exactly 50 as well. 10 of those or so are the wedding party so we'll have our own table. I haven't started a chart yet either, but since it's pretty much just my family, I haven't decided what to do yet.
  • Luckily we don't have to rent chairs, tables, and linens (except the burlap runners I purchased). I just want to make sure everyone is comfortable. I think I will do assigned seating...jst because I can Laughing
  • I think having a long table like that is just perfect for your guests! I think assigned seating might be a good idea for that kind of table as well. Your venue is just beautiful!

  • We are having 40 guests and I wanted so badly to do family style seating, but our venue only had round tables.  I really didn't feel like spending MORE money to get rectangular tables.  Anywhoo....I think your family seating will be perfect and honestly the assigned seating makes it easier on you in the long run.  You don't have to worry about people not sitting with someone or with the right people.  After dinner, people are going to move and do their own thing anyway....

  • we have 19guests plus FI and ME.  We are getting married at home (home of my FSIL) and we are having three tables 2 for adults and 1 for the children.  We are assigning seating since it will eliminate the confusion of where to sit.  My FMIL always has assigned seating at holidays and so I'm leaving this up to her and my FSIL.

  • I am having about 40 and I am allowing people to sit were ever they want. I have one reseved table for my family and for his.  I will do 50 seats so people will have a few choices of seats.
