Monthly cycle question

This may be TMI, but it's a part of a woman's life.  I am on BCP and I am wondering if there's any way I can change it so my period will come one week sooner.  I looked ahead and if I continue with my 4 week cycle as normal, I will have my period the week of our wedding and wedding day.  I don't want to make it one week later because then it will be on our honeymoon. Please let me know if you know how to make it one week sooner.  Thanks in advance! :)

Re: Monthly cycle question

  • Assuming you are on BCP where the fourth week of pills are placebos/sugar pills, all you have to do is when you finished Week 3 of a pack, skip Week 4 and start a new pack immediately. You will not get your period that month (you may have some spotting).

I would do this on your next pack and adjust your cycle NOW rather than waiting until June when you might still get some spotting.

And you should check with your doctor before doing this just to make sure, but I do it all the time. The BCP where you only get 4 period a year or 1 period a year are basically doing the same thing-skipping the placebo week except for the times you get your period.

  • If you skip the placebo pills and just start a new pack you will change your cycle to come a week earlier.  It's completely healthy to do (some doctors advise patients to do it), but just know that you may have side effects.  Which to me, is worth it to not have your period on your wedding or honeymoon.  I've done it a few times before when I was going on vacation.  The next month my boobs get really sore and my period is heavier than normal.  Some people spot so just be aware of those side effects.

Usually if you take your placebos (the different colored pills) you should get your period. I would just skip the pills and go straight to the placebos when you want to start. (I think if you do that, you want to skip them in the other pack so you don't have your periods too close together.)

I would suggest (you should talk to your doctor though) just skipping the placebos and in turn, skipping your period that month, It seems easier than the above.

EDIT: We all posted at the same time. They said it better though. :)

  • Just make sure you can skip the placebo week. I used to take Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I couldn't just skip and start a new pack. Each week of pills had a different level of hormones so it would have totally messed me up if I tried to skip. I once heard someone say I could have skipped my period by starting a new pack backwards, but I never tried it.

  • Thank you so much. Everything makes complete sense. I'm starting a new pack tomorrow so I'll adjust it this up coming time. Thanks again for your help!
  • Skip the placebo and start your next pack. I do it all the time. I only have 4 periods a year
  • You've just inspired me to count mine out and make sure I won't have this problem!

I know! It just popped into my head and I didn't want to deal with it during those two important times! Good luck!
  • skip the placebos and go striaght to the next pack. I had to do the same thing. I did it one year before the wedding. However, you could do it the month before the wedding.

  • I've skipped the placebo pills a few times before.  It is completely fine to miss a few.  That reminds me... I need to count mine out.  Thanks for the reminder.

Agree with this. And DEFINITELY check with your physican first!  The first thing i did when i picked our wedding date was figure up when my period was gonna be so i understand the concern! lol

This Exactly! I do it all the time too and my doctor is the one who told me to do it! As long as you have 4 periods in one year (minus being pregnant) you are fine!

You reminded me that I have to do this too!
  • I counted my cycle out as well and I'm to start the weekend before the wedding and be done by the wedding I only go 3 days (sorry if tmi). I'm not on any BC but it's pretty reg every 3 weeks.
