June 2012 Weddings

Anybody else concerned about....

bugs?
We are having an all outdoor wedding, which will be exactly what we want.  My biggest concern though is that it will be late June in Maryland and the bugs are already bad in some spots due to a warm winter.  I don't want to change a thing about the location but I also don't want bugs in the food or bothering people.
We are getting married at a city park so there are limits as to what sprays we can use (ie, basically nothing) although we are working with a wonderful lady at the park who is trying to get an exception for us.
Anybody have any ideas?  Maybe non-bug spray ideas?

Re: Anybody else concerned about....

  • Thanks for the tips!
Our venue will not allow any sort of fogging or ground spray, but I think we are going to hang citronella lanterns at the corners of the tent and put bug spray and sunscreen out at our "water stations" around the property.  We are also having a pig roast/bbq, and everything will be grilled onsite, so hopefully the smoke will help too.
The plants are a good idea too.  I like chemical-free solutions to things... maybe I will incorporate those into the centerpieces.
  • we just decided to do the whole thing outside (ceremony was originally supposed to be indoors) because of a last minutes venue change. I hadn't even thought of bugs. thanks for the advice.
