I need help with finding a dj

I am getting married Aug 13,2011.  I am having a very hard time with finding a dj.  I am having 80 guests.  20 of the guests are kids age ranging from 5-16 years old.   We have a 7 year old.  We are both 42 years old.  This is our first marriage.
We both love to dance.  My problem is I think we will need help getting people on the dance floor.  I could be wrong but I don't want to chance it.  My budget is $1200.
I have looked up critical entertainment, afterhours and music in motion.  my photographer recommended mark the shark but he has no video clips.
Any suggestions would be great!!  I am really stressing out with this part of the planning.
Thank you

I would say look into Mr. Music Man. He is from North Haven. He is doing ours and he gave me a great deal for $1,000. :)

    Good luck!

My FI and I are meeting with Jason Palermo of JP Artistic Entertainment next week.  I've read really good reviews about him on here as well as on wedding wire

You really can't beat his price either, it would actually be closer to half of your budget for a DJ.

    His website is musicbymelee.com.

We used Tom Salatto from Starry Nite Entertainment and he was fantastic at getting all age groups out on to the dance floor and he was a great MC. He also will fall way below your budget. He did our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception for hundreds below your budget. If you only needed him for your reception it would be even cheaper.

Hands Down - Music in Motion.

We had a day wedding, and the party was MOVING! :) Had my niece and cousins dancing from 12-24 and my parents and grandparents and older cousins dancing.

Not to mention they are CLASS ACT and really have it together.

I still need to do my vendor reviews.

We are using After Hours...I also talked to some of the other you mentioned.  But none compared to them.  Meet with them and you will see; you will love them.  www.afterhoursdj.com. Good luck.

we are using Jason Palermo of JP Artistic Entertainment too!   Personable and so knowledged.  I have a wedding with a ton of kids and wanted to make sure they would have some songs to dance too.  He was mroe than happy to help and mold our wedding to the way we wanted.  I've seen him in action twice this year, once but accident, but I'm mroe than impressed with his organization and the fact that he is not CHEESY!!!!  He's helping us with a customized entrance all for a great price. But he books fast (my cousin tried to book with him, but he was booked already)  His website is www.musicbymelee.com!  Hope you have good luck in your findings

We are using Afterhours DJ Entertainment in Enfield.  We are using Bert and Vinnie, but I see Peter gets great reviews here also.  Their website is www.afterhoursdj.com. We did look into the other Afterhours in MA and were not impressed.  Again good luck with your final choice.

I second Mr Music Man. Josh is great! He goes to a lot of bridal fairs and offers discounts. We got his $2000 package for $1500, but he also had his $1500 for $1000.

I used Charlie S from Powerstation Events and loved him!  They have a lot of DJs to choose from, offer a bunch of other packages/services (I had them do our uplighting as well) and the Djs are all around $1099

We hired Music in Motion and we weren't thrilled with our DJ - we didn't have Mike the owner.  He chose a different intro songs for parents w/out asking me, didn't play out intro song at all, played a different Mother/Son song after he said he had the one she wanted and played the song for DH and grandmother after she had left.

I have been to 2 weddings with Mark the Shark and he is good - changes up the music if ppl aren't dancing and reads the crowd well.

If there are any songs that are important to you - put them on a disc and hand it to the DJ so you aren't disappointed.

we're using Afterhours out of Enfield. Pete is awesome. After our meeting with him, we were so psyched for the big day!! I know a few other people who've used them and they were great! They are really reasonable there too!

I went with Music in Motion, and I made sure I got Mike the owner.  He's been nothing but helpful throughout the process.  I have a family who needs motivation to get up and dance, and Mike's the guy who can do it!  Good luck!
