Cheap Newport hotels

My wedding is in Sept. at Castle Hill and I need to find a decent hotel that is not too pricey. The beauty of it is my wedding is on a Thursday and usually non weekend days are much cheaper.  I already called one place, The Best Western that is right next to Newport Grand.  With the room block discount they were 98 dollars for a weds and thurs before tax.  I think that is very reasonable and it is only about 15 mins from Castle Hill.  My fiance says that hotel isn't in the best area though...

Re: Cheap Newport hotels

  • I looked at hotels in that area for my wedding, September 14th. We blocked for the 13th and 14th  - so Thursday and Friday night. The Best Western isn't great, but it's cheap and could definitely be in worse area of town. It is the boat show though - so that's why I got to this early. I blocked at the 2 hotels across from my venue, ABC, and also courtyard marriott and residence marriott. none of them gave great prices - I think b/c of the boat show and it's still high season. I have had a horrible experience with the hotels across from the venue...haven't heard anythign about the courtyard marriott and b/c of the suite style - the residence inn proved to be expensive. I would go with the best western. I would also try the holiday inn on west main road and hampton inn - although when I called hampton they were at capacity for blocks, but you could offer it to your guests as an option. my mom booked there on her own with her AAA discount and it was cheaper than all 4 of the hotels I booked - so you never know. I would tell you to get going on this though - just because things are booking fast. my MOH called for her room and said things were booking.
  • Check out the Quality Inn and Comfort Suites. They're technically in Middletown but are closer to your venue. They are right next to the Atlantic and across from First Beach. They are usually reasonably priced. There's also a Hampton Inn in Middletown. It's a little further away, but that might make it more reasonably priced.

  • I definately would stay away from the Best Western it is not a hotel you would want to have your guest stay in.  There is the Royal Plaza in Middletown which is very reasonable.  There is also a couple of hotels by Applebee's which are very nice, they maybe a bit pricier but definately better than the Best Western.
  • Thank you all for the suggestions.  I called the Holiday Inn Express in Middletown and they wanted 160 for a Weds and Thurs night.  I am going to keep calling places tomorrow.  I am fine with people staying in Middletown, it isn't that far.  I also have to get a block at Castle Hill, but I know not everyone will be able to afford to stay there.

<div>I'm going to suggest you not stay at the royal plaza. My fiance and I recently stayed there nad we had a HORRIBLE experience. They were just bought out by the ramada and are trying to "Redo" the rooms. Our room had the carpet half pulled up and it was disgusting. They were also removing some tiles in the bathroom. He was living there for a month so he requested another room, which wasn't much better but at least wasn't mid-reno. There were ants in teh room however, so they moved him again.</div><div>
</div><div>At the end of the trip they double charged HIM, (it was supposed to be charged to teh Navy since he was there on business). So we ended up paying almost $5000 for the room. We called and complained and the manager told us that was what we owed.</div><div>
    </div><div>It was really a horrid experience.</div><div>
</div><div>I would suggest the quality and comfort inns across from ABC. I know that URIsweethearts had a bad experience however, I have always stayed there and had nice experiences when I attended Newport weddings. And the Suites can be shared by 4 people- so the price works out ok, even though its a bit more.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, there is a new Hampton inn in Middletown and other hotels in that area ,including a decent Courtyard Marriott.</div><div>
</div><div>I always like the Newport Inn and Suites, it might be a bit pricier but usually you can get a discounted rate- and its right in the center of town.</div>

  • royal plaza is scary, period. i would rather stay at the best wester, honestly. the newport hotel and suites is really nice and near the comfort inn and quality inn, but we looked there too and they don't really "do" room blocks. there is no discounted rate. they make a wedding registry, which is essentially just a way for you to track rooms, for OOT bags for instance, but it is expensive. FI and I are staying there friday night after our wedding, and we are paying about $400 I think with tax. not sure why it's that much, it's not that great, but we wanted something close and didn't want to spend our wedding night in the comfort inn. ;) if i had all the money - I would have stayed at chanler with him. heard it's beautiful!
  • I actually have worked at the Courtyard in Middletown and the Newport Marriott! If you're looking for better rates I'd stay in Middletown, Hampton Inn, Residence, Courtyard (of course), Holiday Inn is decent. I would DEFINITELY stay away from royal plaza. It just depends on what your guests can afford.

And I've been to the Chanler URIsweetheart, it's BEAUTIFUL! I'm trying to save up to spend my wedding night there!!!!!
  • My reception is at Newport Beach Hotel and Suites in November. The suites aren't discounted, but are a great deal.
  • The Best Western next to Newport Slots is not one of the best hotels in Newport, but for the price you can't beat it. I used to go to Salve and my parents stayed there once. It wasn't anything majorly spectacular but they found nothing wrong with it. My wedding is at The Officer's Club on the Naval Base and we are having our guests stay at the Best Western. My fiance and I toured the place and checked out some rooms last month and they were basically just like any other chain hotel. They're not going to be a fancy Newport hotel, but you're going to get a great price. Probably the best price you'll find in Newport in Sept. Down the street past the Walmart is considered not so nice neighborhoods, but you find that a lot in Newport. I've lived here for 8 years and there are places all over Newport that are considered "bad places" but you rarely hear about problems. Plus there isn't much to do around that hotel that's within walking distance so you don't have to worry about walking through a bad area. Hope that helps :-)
  • I agree with dberrett.  Try the Comfort Inn and Quality Inn in Middletown.  Great location with the beach and reasonably priced.  They actually own the Best Western you are talking about, as well as Tickets and Atlantic Beach Club (which are across the street from the Comfort Inn and Quality Inn).

I hope this helps!  Happy wedding planning!
Married to my best friend since September 4, 2011!
