Question about Gift Registry pick up and etiquette

Hi there

So I've registered at a couple of places for my bridal shower.  One of the stores sends me an email each time a gift is purchased and also sends me an email when the item is ready for pick up at the store.  The actual event is not until end of August but I just got an email telling me that Person A just bought me XYZ and is ready for pick up.

Questions:  Am I supposed to pick up the item before the shower?  if yes, am I supposed to bring it to the shower or just take it home and thank them when I get the card?  Am I supposed to wait until the event occurs, get the card from Person A telling me they bought XYZ gift, act surprised and then go pick up the item?  Basically do I wait for the event to occur before I pick up the item.

The store really did not explain the etiquette and has really ruined the surprise of who bought what by emailing me :(

Generally, the etiquette is to thank a person asap once you receive the gift. It's nice because it lets the person know right away that you got the gift, so they won't have to wait around wondering.

If it's convenient for you, pick it up and send the thank you right away. If you anticipate more gifts being purchased this way, then you can wait for a bit to pick up all of the gifts in a batch, but still try to do it sooner rather than later.

If the person comes to your shower, you can thank them again in person. But I don't see the need to bring it to the shower; the other guests won't really be THAT interested to see ALL of the gifts you've received. If they don't come to the shower, then at least you've already thanked them.

This may happen for the wedding itself too, in which case send the thank you for the wedding gift asap even if it's before the wedding. (And of course, make sure to keep track of who you've thanked already.) It will help you reduce your work after the wedding!
