How long does it take...

I'm working on a timeline of things that need to be done and I'm trying to figure out how much time to give myself to look for, order, print, and proof invitations before the date I want to send them out.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!

    You'll want to count backwards.

So, your wedding is June 24.

Let's say your venue wants the final headcount (and dinners if applicable), by two weeks before, or June 10.

Since you will want some time to yourself to hunt down those that don't respond, make your rsvp date two weeks before that, say May 27.

You want your guests to have the invites around 6 weeks before that (it will vary by bride, 4-8 weeks being average) so six weeks before that would be April 14. So mail by April 10.

Plan on a minimum of 2 weeks to assemble. So you want to have them back March 26.

Contact your printer to see how long it will take to print. Assuming it's two months (often its less) but assume two months. So order by Jan 26.

PROOF before you place the final order.

The final order is what needs the time.  the company I worked with had me order, then they gave me a digital proof so I could check layout and spelling. And then I gave the ok to print the final order.

If the place you order from needs (assuming a lot here) 10 days to go from the first proof to the final go ahead to place the order, you would want your initial dealings (regarding your order) to be around Jan 15.

So, you have between now and Jan 15 to play around and look at pretty invite samples before the work of placing your order starts.

    Have fun shopping!

I would say count backwards allowing yourself 2 months before the wedding to mail them out, 1 month for assembly, 2-4 weeks for calligraphy, and 2-3 weeks for ordering.  As for how long to look for them, it depends on you.  I had looked through a few books at wedding shows and didn't like much but when I sat down more seriously I picked one out that day.

I think all of it depends on how you are getting your invitations...are you ordering from an online source or are you giong to a printer/stationary store?

It took me several weeks to find the invite I wanted (a few days here and there which had to have added up to that time) and proofing took 10 minutes, got the invites in 2 weeks, spent a couple of days getting the printing right on the computer for the envelopes, printing took one day and assembly took one day with myself and my 2 MOHs.  I mailed mine out with 2 months to go as my numbers were due to the venue the week before my wedding and i made the rsvp the week before that.

I ordered my invites a year before the wedding. I had a proof a week later and the actual invites a week after I gave the go ahead on the proof.  I mailed them out 10 weeks before the wedding.  My RSVP date was 4 weeks before the head count was due back to the reception hall.  I wanted enough time to chase people down who didn't rsvp as well as order / print anything that was head count related and not have to stress about anything.
