Paying for it all

How did you and your FI set up your finances for  your wedding? Like did you open a joint bank account just for The Wedding or are you using your own bank account and handling certain expenses and your FI is using his for other wedding related expenses. I'm trying to figure out different options. Now that I've put a  deposit down on my dress I'm thinking should paying the balance off come from a joint wedding fund or my own individual savings for the wedding fund LOL What worked best for you Ladies?

  • We joined bank accounts.  It was just easier since we already live together and shared bills.   I have been using the saving account for wedding money and just transferring it to savings from checking when we get our direct deposit.

We have just paid for wedding stuff together no matter what it was..

  • After we booked everything. We decided that my fiance would pay for the reception since that is our biggest expense and I am paying for everything else since it would add up to the same amount as the reception. Of course I have been buying through classifieds and oriental trading t save money. We haven't booked our honeymoon yet because we haven't narrowed down exactly where we want to go. we are thinking of a two week cruise to Europe. We will probably both share that expense.

  • We opened a joint savings acct and put the same amount each per paycheck. We've been paying wedding stuff from that

We haven't opened a joint account yet - probably will do that shortly before or after the wedding... so far: we just have split everything in half...e.g. down payment for venue, DJ, wedding bands, etc... we just split it right in the middle... except my dress and his suit... i paid for my dress myself and he will do the same - once he picked out his suits...

  • How soon did you guys set up the accounts? Since we haven't picked a date or venue yet BUT I have ordered my dress so I'm trying to figure out should we set up the joint account ASAP or wait until we have a actual wedding date or wait until we have a definite budget set...

  • We still have separate accts but might as well have one!  Lol.. I make less so I'm paying for the smaller things (invites, dress, etc) but it still adds up!
  • my fiance and i are setting up a joint bank account so we can both see exactly how much we have saved up.  our goal is to each put in $100 a week.  Since our wedding is March 2013, that should give us a decent amount of money.
