Engagement Party

My fiance and I are having an engagement party. While we are financing the dinner, my MOH is hosting. Would it be weird to do some DIY centerpieces for the dinner table? Also, is there anything that we can do to make the dinner party memorable? I don't think having a plate where people can sign is quite appropriate (more of a wedding idea) but I would like to do something that is fun that I can take away from the party (and not just leftovers!) Any ideas for the centerpieces? It will be held at an Italian restaurant.

    I think since you're having it at an established restaurant it would be odd to do centerpieces but that's just me.

    Do you scrapbook? You could just make sure to take pictures with all of those present and scrapbook it, maybe a copy of the menu, an extra invitation, etc.
